Few "gas" ?'s
1)When does everyone gas up their scion?
2)Do you fill it all the way up?
3)What octane do you run?
1) Between ¼ and empty ( when the light came on a couple times)
2) I fill it everytime
3) I use premium..I believe thats 93 octane

u should use 87 octane on the tC unless u have forced induction in the car, e.g. turbo or supercharger. u are just wasting ur money, this engine was designed for 87 octanes and if u think by doing anything higher then that you are doing urself a favor u r not, u are just paying more money.

1)About 50 miles after the orange light comes on, once the needle is a few mm below the empty line. I hate filling up so I put it off as long as possible, I've been doing it for 7 years and haven't run out of gas yet.
2)All the way up, usually about 13.5 gallons
3)87

1) When the light goes on, I'll stop to get gas as soon as I pass a station I usually fill up at. If not, I'll just wait until I know I'll be driving a lot that day and fill up. When it goes on, you still have about 3 gallons left, so that's a safe 60 miles.
2) All the way.
3) 91 because my dad thinks it's better and he pays for it. Personally, I would use 87 because that's what the car needs. He thinks the 91 cleans the engine, which I think COULD be true. But I don't think brand name gas is better than others.

1) between 1/4 and empty, I don't like to test it....
2) all the way, gas money isn't much of an issue for me thanks to pre-planned budgeting with fluffing
3) 87 because otherwise you're a moron

I've only filled mine up once and that was right around 1/8 of a tank when the light turned on. I let it run till the gas pump stopped and got it up to the next $0.25. I used 87 octane.
And what does "R" mean anyway??! I'm so used to seeing "E" in cars.

1) just at 1/4 tank.....i was told that if there is any water in the gas you're using.....it would be sucked into your injection system anywhere under 1/4 tank....better safe than sorry....????
2) full full full
3) 87 only......usually use a fuel additive about every 3 tanks....something mild since the car's new...

I thought the "R" stood for Reserve.
Anyone had this problem yet? I was filling up yesterday and I could only get about a half a tank in (yes I checked the gauge). I tried putting the pump nozzle at different angles, but it kept clicking off. What gives?

yeah, so...
1) whenver the light comes on i start looking for a station, but i'm in no hurry
2) why wouldn't i fill it all the way up?
3) and i do 87 with the occasional 89 when it's cheap.
just be sure you don't overfill the tank, meaning that once it clicks off, don't fill up the neck of the filler anymore, reason being, there is the charcoal filter in the neck, if you overfill the tank, gas will splash on the charcoal filter and it will set off a check engine light and you will need a charcoal filter, which i read on here is not covered under warranty. happened to my sister's mazda3 a week after she got it.
So Im guessing im about the only one other than a couple ppl that use the 93 octane.. I always thought it was slighty better for you motor. cuz it supposvly. ( burns cleaner/cooler/more combustionable). Idk I always use 93 in all my cars no matter what it is.. I am debating about switchin to the mid grade now!!
Yes lots of people have this problem, the solution seems to be, put the nozzle in half-way and don't fill up if you have more than a quarter tank already in...
someone said there was a service bulliten for this problem on the xB i haven't heard of one on the tC though....

With 87 octane your engine could compress that fuel/air mixture to Level 8 on a scale of 1-10. 89 octane can compress to 9 and 91 to Level 10. With me so far? OK so you're engine is tuned to fire when the compression gets to Level 8. Being able to compress to 9 or 10 will do you NO good because the spark will fire at Level 8. It's not a measure of energy, just the fuel's ability to resist pre-ignition or knock. I've never heard a Scion pinging.
Fuel injector cleaner costs about 3 bucks a bottle and they suggest running it once per oil change - about every 5000 miles.
These cars are new, well designed and planned to be efficient. There are better things to do to spoil your car. The higher octane it doesn't care about...
Here's what Shell says, remember - they would be the ones to profit from using the more expensive grades and here's their take:
