Fishy smell
Has anyone had a fishhy smell coming out of the vents. I spent a awhile searching for it last night. I found where the smell was coming from. It smells like it is coming from the wiper motor area. I removed the panel and it smells like it is coming from the motor.
has anyone ever had this problem. I cleaned the hell out of that area, and hope that it still doesn't stink.

My rear parcel shelf smelled like skunk when I took delivery, I took it out and it lives in the garage now, it still smells 5 months later... Maybe they had skunks on the boat, along with the cars, who knows.
Wiper moter smells -> take it to the dealer and get it checked for a short

I notice it after turning off the a/c but leaving the fan on. I think it has to do with the A/C. My 98 Tacoma does it and my 04 Matrix did it too, but only after the A/C was running and shut off but fan still on.
There should be a TSB for it. Depending on the area you live in, more moisture builds on the coils for the A/C and they start to build mold. This smells bad and is also bad for your health. Don't think because I am saying it that it's only a problem with Scions, don't want to start another hating thread, but if there is a TSB, take it into the dealership and they have a kit that cleans the coils and makes everything nice and fresh again, I know this problem happens alot with Hondas, mainly because they build so much condensation. I would just give Scion a call, and if that dealer doesn't know, call another. They should have info on it.
Hope this helps. I used to work for a GMC dealer as a porter/lot attendant/apprentice tech, we had to do that alot to the trucks. After we used the cleaning kit, we would have to go back with the smoke and odor eliminator. Good Stuff, smells funny for a minute, but takes care of everything.

Believe it or not when I used to do inspections on Lexus vehicles the washer fluid smelled like fish . When I used to do the test on the wipers and sprayer test , the car would smell like a fishing boat LOL . Now if this trickles down into the Toyota/Scion line I am not sure . But I am suspecting its probably the same stuff and I dont know why it smells that way from Japan but the US stuff has no real smell
I guess that I will give the dealership a call tomorrow. It is my wifes car, and she is getting anoyed by the smell. It just started over the weekend, I think, and she was complaining.
well it's most likely the a/c condenser.. get it cleaned, don't need you inhaling mold.. because that's what the smell is..
as far as the windshield wiper fluid from japan smelling like fish, all i have to say is.. sushi is a japanese delicacy, guess toyota found out a new usage!! lol
