Default Gas Meter?

i dont kno if some of you notice, but when ever i fill up my tank of gas, the need seems to be behind the full mark. and when ever its empty, the light turns on rather early before the empty mark. im always guessing how much gas i have left. haha its like a game. but annoying, thanks guys and gals.

The light should come on early as a warning.

Well, its full when its past 1/1 I agree its weird, but my warning light usually comes on at a what I would call appropriate time. Its best to fill your car at half tank though and not wait untill its that low.

Depends on how agressively you drive, since the tC has fuel slosh issues at low-fuel-level, high-manuverabilty conditions. Almost stalled out a couple times making some hard turns with low fuel.

Its reccomended that you fill at half tank...I think the owners manual even tells you that.

i didn't know that...i haven't study my bible yet...
but its normal that it pass the 1/1 mark....and when the light goes on...best bet is that you still have 2 gallons...(assuming that we do have 14.5 gallons) coz when i put gas in...it's always 12.1 or 12.2 with the light on...

I've gotten it down past E before. I try not to do that so much anymore, because of the fuel slosh stated above.

But I can say with certainty that I can get above 400 miles to a tank.

here is the thing with past E. i heard that if it goes past E it might damage the fuel pump, and it might clog up the the fuel pump as well.

now i got one question.
is it me or does the gas needel drop faster after 1/2 tank?

It drops much faster in the lower "half". The mechanism is not smart enough to figure out exactly when you have half a tank of fuel. Instead, it just measures fuel level. If it says 1/2 then it means your fuel is occupying half of the vertical height of the fuel tank. If the tank was a cube then this would be fine, but the tank is an odd shape. It's wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. So the top "half" of the tank holds much more fuel than the bottom "half".

Yeah it takes a while for the fuel to go from F to the 1/2 mark. However, after the 1/2, it feels like the gas tank has a hole.

running past E is bad cuz air and fumes get into the lines which in turn cause damage. never run on fumes. i personally think the light comes on prematurely, but it is a good guidance incase ur doing long driving and a gas station is nowhere to be found, u can still drive around to find one.

Doesnt it make you feel real good though, when you fill up past the full mark......then drive around for a day and it doesnt go down. Its like...you have a free ride for alittle bit......if you dont get all technical about it in your head. Just enjoy how it sits up high on the gauge for a long time.
