Gas on paint
Well the money to pay the salaries of thousands of pump attendants has to come from someone. If it doesn't get passed onto the consumer in the form of higher gas prices, then it either comes out of the pockets of gas station owners or it comes from the state. If the state subsidizes this pointless job, then it means the consumer is being taxed in some other way just to pay for gas pump attendants.
There is a reason why the other 48 states did away with this law. The law originates from a time when people actually thought it was too dangerous for the regular public to be handling gasoline. Those days are gone, so the law needs to go too. It was a safety measure, not a measure to create more jobs or more convenience for drivers. Now it is just wasteful.

man here in some shady parts of cali where gas is like gold, you'd have some of those attendants filling portable tanks before yours.
Me: "Dude my car's tank isn't 25 gallons. Wtf?"
Hyphy NorCal Attendant: "Idk. Heat expansion. Yo."

see thats the thing though....we have low gas price and people to pump it for us....say it sucks but looks like we are getting the better deal.
I can manage with paying the $2.85/ gallon vs $4.15 or higher a gallon in CA.

When we are talking about the issue of pump attendants, any comparisons between NJ and CA gas prices are irrelevant. The point is that you are paying for people to pump your gas, and I am not. I hope you realise that regardless of the price of your gas, it would still be cheaper if the attendants were taken out of the loop. If you are paying $2.85, maybe it would be $2.75 if you pumped it yourself. On a full tank, you might save a buck or more just by doing the work for yourself. If I am paying $3.30 in CA, maybe I would have to pay $3.40 to get someone to pump it for me. I am just glad the state lets me pump it myself, because this has saved me a whole lot of money over the years.

Right I do realize there are a lot of factors involved in the price of gas between nj and ca. All Im saying is I dont have to pump it and its cheaper. bottom line thats it.
Maybe what you are saying about the prices is true but then again thats just speculation.
It's not speculation. It's a known fact that any time someone provides you with a service, you have to pay for it. Even if they only get paid the minimum wage, we are still talking about thousands of people working full-time positions. Someone has to pay those workers' salaries. It would not be fair to tax the entire population, since not everyone purchases gas, therefore it is logical that the people who buy gas are the people who have to pay. And I know the charge is not a flat-rate surcharge per customer, or else you would know about it, so the charge must be hidden in the cost of every gallon of gas that you buy.
