Default Got my first speeding ticket. Need Recommendations

I was driving down a suburban street last night, and there were barely any cars on the road. Got pulled over, and got a speeding ticket for going 50 in a 35 area.

Should I...........

a) plead guilty, pay 75 dollars
b) plead nonguilty, pay 125 dollars and go to traffic school
c) go to court

I was thinking about option C. Would cops really show up to court?

You were guilty, just pay it.

If I'm not mistaken, if there name is on the ticket, they are required to go. Just pay it and deal with it.

Where you live, will they drop it off your record if you go to traffic school and pay the extra? If so, that is definitely the option you should take. Worth the money now to keep it off your insurance.

A lot of times cops will not show up to court for tickets, but if they do, you will lose and then have to pay court costs plus the tickets.

So option A if you cant get it off your record, the second one if your state will drop it after traffic school and over payment. In Missouri they used to (not sure if they still do) drop it if you pay double... funny how the law works huh? All they really care about is getting thier money.. you are still just paying them off

Just pay it. At least it wasn't reckless. I learned that the hardway...I was doing 90 in a 60 mph "highway safety corridor" zone. I had to pay the max fine which was $2,000...I got a lawyer...I went to driving school...I went to court...and now I pay over $400 a month for insurance...lesson learned

Get the ticket adjudicated by taking a Defensive Driving course and SLOW DOWN.

I've gotten plenty of speeding tickets in the past 10 years or so and I've learned that atleast 90% of the time, the cop shows up to court.
Plead guilty, pay the lesser fine and just learn to SLOW DOWN...

Look into traffic school online and make sure it "drops" the ticket from your record. Your insurance co will not be notified. In CA, you can do this every 18months. If you get a ticket within that 18months, you're in trouble. But if you can keep clean, you are in the clear.

Well i guess i should be so lucky! A few months back i got pulled over going 99 in a 55. Doh!!! Also in a construction zone. Cop said he was only going to give me a ticket for speeding and nothing else because my ticket would be exspensive enough. Anywho i went to court and pleaded "no contest". My ticket was only 170. and no points on my liscense.

Plead nonguilty, show up to court and before court goes into session, talk to the cop who gave you the ticket and tell him all you want to do is reduce/eliminate your points. Tell him you'll pay the fine, but you want out of the points. Chances are, they'll drop the points and your insurance won't go up.

If you plead guilty and just pay, then you're stupid. At least try to get out of the points or else be prepared to dish out a lot of cashola for your monthly insurance bill until the points are dropped (I think two are dropped per year).

I see you're also 18. I believe insurance drops once you hit 21 and then 25 for a final time. You're not 21 yet, so wow... I can only imagine what this will do for your record, lol.

Plead nonguilty.

just pay the ticket man, i learned my lesson time after time, i have had over the past 3 yrs about 8 tickets for speeding...2 times i been to the driving school, its just worth it, if this is ur first ticket take the driving class, the ticket wont hit ur license or points wont be assed, and the only money you pay is for the class

Im 19 and had the same thing happen to me. I got caught doing 51 in a 35 so 16mph over. I went to court and pled guilty with hopes I could attend driving school and have the charges dropped since it was my first ticket. Unfortunately the judge that day did not give driving school but he did reduce my 16mph over to 9mph over which put me in the lowest class speeding offense. Id say go to court if you have the time.

NEVER JUST PAY THE TICKET IF YOU CAN GET IT WIPED OFF BY SPENDING HALF THE DAY IN TRAFIC SCHOOL. TAKING THE TIME AND SPENDING THE XTRA $ IS WORTH NOT HAVING IT ON YOUR RECORD AT ALL.

I got caught doing 25 over the limit on the highway in my wife's corolla. I learned that if you're caught doing more than 20 over the limit you cannot go to traffic school. 75 points were docked out of my 200 points and my insurance has not gone up; I heard that if you get a second ticket [that bad] then your insurance will getcha. Ever since, I have learned to:

1) SLOW DOWN
2) If you see a whole bunch of brake lights while speeding on the freeway, it's a good indicator that someone ahead of you can see the cop which you can't see yet.

I say take the class to get it removed from your record. You don't want anything on your record...
