Default Guaging Interest: Business Idea

Evening all.

I'm trying to generate ideas and guage interest on a business idea, and I'm hoping you can help. It's not a new idea. It's just a car wash. Our niche market will be those who are too picky to trust most car washes. Assuming all goes to plan, you would pay a premium to get a hand wash that guarentees NO SWIRL MARKS. Key is using the proper supplies and technique. This would be more-so intended for owners of higher end makes and models, but I know how in love Scion owners are, as I am one. Off the top of my head, the cost for a basic wash is $20.00. Other services will be offered, but for the basic, you get a hand wash and dry, wheel cleaning and tire shine. What I'd like to hear in response is weather the price is too high or too low, how much you think a service as such should cost, and any ideas you'd like to see. I appreciate the help.

I personally don't pay 1.75 to rinse my car off, because the idea of paying for that dosnt make sense to me. Many people don't think much of it, however I don't see a huge market for something like this. For the small amount of people interested I say thats a good price.

not high enough.. by alot. back when i lived with my parents, my source of income was medium to high-end automotive detailing. it's the reason why i was so active on forums such as autopia, detailcity, and autogeekonline. In doing such cars, owners would definitely pay more.... for instance, a basic wash/dry/windows/tire shine was $50. Took about an hour to an hour and a half from initial setup to packing up.

prices went from there on up to $3-400+ depending on the size of the car.

charge more.

I paid $60 for a hand wash, hand dry, and interior cleaning detailing

so I don't know, you consider cleaning the interior?

I would pay for a professional detailing, but not a car wash. cause i can do that myself. I don't know enough to say it's a fair price though, plus I cheap when it comes to that. But $20 sounds better than $50. LOL

What's your location?? That has a big factor too, people in Miami, ATL, Cali and high profile places like that would pay to get their car washed. As to where most people in Iowa probably wouldn't, and would probably laugh at $20.

I know theres a place that I go to that does an awesome job. They charge $80 for hand wash, wax, tire/rim clean and shine, and interior. When I had it done for the last car show a couple months back the car looked nicer then when I picked it up at the dealership!

If I could find a place like that around here that wouldn't use grit-soaked rags on my wheel's chrome lip, I would gladly throw $20 their way from time to time.

the problem with a 'no swirl' joint that only charges 20 a pop is that they have to hire kids who don't know the difference between microfiber and paper towels. they don't care. if they don't care, the cars will end up trashed.

$20 is laughable if you're going after the higher end market.

At the dealership I work at we charge $500 for a fairly simple wash and protection. I don't know whether or not I'm supposed to say exactly what we do, so I won't. But you'd be surprised how many people are willing to pay that.

Not enough of a solidified ground for a business plan. With the combination of whats out there already I think you'll have a difficult time. If you'd like some help on your idea shoot me a pm I have ideas that may help. To add to my credibility, I'm a business major working at Toyota HQ this summer.
