Hatch Hydrolics Worn Out..
Just posting to tell and warn..
Well all of a sudden 2 weeks ago my hatch decided not to go up but rather it wanted to go down hard.. Turns out my hydrolics worn out in just 7 months.. Well got it fix and the dealer quoted it would have cost somewhere around 300.. just for those 2 scrawny things and 3 hours of service... which was surprising.. well just warning you guys that one day our warranty will run out and if we somehow mess up our hatch we are screwed..
soo just 1 question.. whats the proper way to close a hatch.? slamming it down?
slowly lowering it down and with 2 hands push it down? ( this somehow scares me because it seem I would make a bump on the hatch top.)..

try something called warranty.. if the dealer doesn't want to cover it.. call scion.. they know of a little something called warranty..
and 300 for the supports? that's hilarious.. the shock for your car aren't even that much and they support one end of your car! a lot heavier than a hatch.. try $50 at napa if you needed to pay for them yourself.. but you don't it's called warranty..
i would try another dealer, this one is clearly lying to you and i'd report them.. some of these stories are an attorney's dream!! unreal..
I got the same problem too. I dono But I thought it was my DynaMat that weigh it down, the I was thing what about the people who put in the Pedestal Spoiler on witch is way heaver than DynaMat. So im going to bring it in some time this week.
Does anyone realize there's a warranty on these cars?
Things line this have been posted too many times.
If you have a problem with your new car, posting about it is grand, but get it in to the dealership ASAP.
Warranty work = Covered, meaning you should not pay a dime for it.
And if all else fails, take toji's advice, and try the number in my sig.

if you paid 300 for gas springs... you really nee to learn to shop around more for parts. also, closing a hatch is the same on the springs if you close it fast or slow. the pressure is regulated to only move so fast and it's a pretty safe bet that you're not going to be able to apply enough pressure to hurt them. those springs are actually about $10-$20 each at almost any auto parts store and it takes less time to replace them than windshield wipers. good luck getting your money back.

YOu know I can buy the idea of one strut failing , cuz of a defective part . But both struts failing simultaniously ? Sorry but that doesnt sound so good especially with this TSB on the hatch struts being replaced . Where is toyota getting parts from ? Kias parts room ?
My right hatch shock failed too about 7 months into the car, using it about once a day to get my backpack out and what not. The I close it (and the way I think was intended) was by using the handles on the inside of the hatch, grabbing it pull up style (as opposed to chin up) and swing the arm down and out. This way, there are no finger print on the outside of your car.
I'm really disappointed by quality control. It seems like my car is a neverending source of little failures, squeaks, rattles, and clanks. I don't care if this car was "cheap" and "only" costed 19 grand out the door. The fact is, it was still nineteen thousand dollars (more with apr) that I'm paying for from a car company like Toyota whose been known for good quality cars. I've had a '99 14k Corolla and it didn't give me ANY trouble. I've taken my car for warranty repair services over 6 times now and its getting old. Plus the guys at the Toyota dealership always claim they "cannot reproduce the problem" and waste hours of my time giving me plenty of crap in the process. What a pain!

I think its a great car too, and I understand that things might be off here or there being a car that has never been publically released prior. Its just... sheesh, I don't care if its a first gen or not, I'm irked at the fact that as soon as I fix one rattle, some other stupid rattle comes up. It's just aggravating.
Even if stuff is covered by warranty, the fact that warranty repair services always quote hours and give you the go arounds kinda deters me. Customer satisfaction at the botton line just isn't that great.

oh wow, the hatch struts wore out and theres a few rattles and your complaining like its the end of the world. im just glad you didnt buy a new GM or Ford...i dont know what your reaction would be to all the recalls their new cars have... the fact that its a first year model and has no MAJOR issiues is a very good thing. a few rattles here and there are normal, trust me. my aunts brand new Escalade rattles much more than my car.. and thats like a $60k car. yeah the tC doesnt have as much quality as toyota..if it did you wouldnt have paid $17k for it. you get what you pay for. if u were lookin for very good quality, you should have bought a lexus or somthing
for the price, this is the best car in its class regardless of all the little problems it has.
