Default hatch rattle fix updates??

this is for all those who have done some sort of fix for their hatch rattles (whether DIY or dealer or whatever else there is). any updates on how those have held up?

which/what did you do? how many miles since? did the rattles return? etc...?

just curious cuz i just bought some weather stripping and am ready to tackle this bad boy (i've waited WAY too long).

Hmm well I have not experienced the infamous rattle in mine, but there is a new TSB NV009-07 called Body Roof Tick/ Rattle Noise-

it says "Some customers may complain of a tick/rattle noise from the hinge area of the rear hatch or back door when driving on uneven or bumpy road surfaces."

Applicable on 2005-2007 produced before the production change effective VIN of JTKDE177770199482

It mentions spot welding between the back door opening frame and back door hinge bracket. it also mentions adding 4 pads to the sliding roof housing in the back door opening frame in 4 locations

this one came out in august 27th i think of this year-- not sure if you've already tried it, but just incase you havent- there it is

haha... Trung just quickly fixed mine when I dropped by Stevens Creek Scion two days ago... Yesterday, it made a 200+mile drive just fine. No more rattles coming from the hatch..yet.. lol.. (I actually didn't find out about that TSB until a few days ago... I always thought the rattle was telling me to turn my music up louder.. ) Now for the rattling that seems to come from the passenger side of the car up top somewhere....

I bought my 05 tC in June of 05. i took mine to the dealership in September of last year (2006) to get it fixed. They said they knew why, it was because of the rear hatch struts? They replaced them brand new and was fine for about a month. I start hearing it again. Didnt bother me much because i had the sunroof rattle. I took that into the dealership and they replaced my rear top glass completly. I still get some rattle in there so i need to take it back. I now start to hear the hatch bouncing a bit harder than before and really annoyed me. I remember seeing that TSB and it was about foam tape and hammering down the striker lock thing. I did hammer the striker lock thing but still had the rattle. Yesterday after work i went to go fix this problem for good. I take the same route to work everyday and know where i hear the hatch bouncing up and down. Its now silent. Only thing needed is electric and foam tape for this project.

Wrapped it about 3 times. Dont get crazy or it will be harder to close the hatch.

i think the electrical tape method really is the one that worked on this rattle. The others are just for a little extra if needed but i did it anyways. After its done, do a test run and you should be happy i hope?

This is exactly what I did over the summer (around June) and my rattle has not come back yet.

Luckily I only have one rattle problem and that's with the driver door near the side view mirrors. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not. At first I thought the temperature had something to do with it, but I was wrong.

Oh well, I'm more concerned about a healthy engine and drivetrain rather than rattles and looks.

its good to have your priorities in order. thankfully the TC's biggest problems are rattles and squeaks and not engine or transmission problems. =)

i did the electrical and foam tape yesterday. its quieter already. and you can even hear it when y ou close the hatch, its now more of a solid "thud". i think i still need to get into the roof liner and take care of those plastic ribs.

Interesting - my car is a 2008 model but my VIN starts with JTKDE16777... was mine built before the production change?

I don't seem to have a problem with rattle of the hatch - mine seems to come from the sunroof, but yesterday and today I haven't heard it much. If I continue to hear it in the future, will the dealer know what to do if I ask for this TSB?

Thanks

hmm thats interesting... maybe it has to do with digits 12-17 which are the unique serial number part of the VIN--

in the future though, all dealerships have access to an internal database of Technical Service bulletins- just give them the TSB number and they can pull it up at the dealer- or just print out a copy that you can find on here most likely, and the dealer will know what it is.

I'm gonna do the foam tape / electrical tape thing today (and probably do it to my glove box too, I think that latch is rattilng) and then get them to do this TSB on my car next time I bring it on for the routine maintence.
