Actually the TSB's (since they are not recalls) are simply new instructions for repairs (additions to the repair manuals) for the dealerships-- they still have to be performed while under factory warranty to be free, otherwise they will charge you-

Usually though if you had a repair done to a component of your car while it was under warranty and then a TSB comes out later for it, the dealer and or scion may be willing to provide assistance, or do it for free-- worth a try ;)

I have an '07 tc and my car is solid until it gets below freezing and then i get the hatch knocking noise. I believe it's due to the weather stripping shrinking in freezing weather, and in turn, let's the hatch make contact at those points that are mentioned abaove. I've never had a car that didn't have little problems like this and it's great to have boards like this to be able to share with others and ultimately help a lot of people with their frustrations.

which still won't accomplish anything. Corporate sent a rep to inspect my clutch...which was making all kinds of F'd up noises. the rep said nothing was wrong with it, simply because it engages and holds.

The tape fix worked for my rattle for a few months, but now the rattle has come back. I tried applying new tape in the same manner as before, but for some reason it doesn't seem to fix the problem anymore. It sounds like the latest rattle is coming from the hatch glass (?). I can even hear the hatch rattle every time I close the driver's door. Any ideas for this one?

Default rattle

I'm getting my 05 back today from the dealer. I called Scion Corp due to my car is out of warrenty and they had fixed it twice already. They did the spot weld "TSB"on the hinges and other things. I'll keep everyone posted if it fixes the rattle/ thumping. They dealer did the repairs under Goodwill service for free. I'm worried about seeing my car, because they have to remove the headliner to do the repairs

i redid the foam tape on my hatch (the rubber stops both on the hatch itself and the ones on the frame). the original ones fell off. it quieted down again after i redid it.

RodC, did you use electrical tape on the latch also? i did that as well. its been pretty quiet.

well i actually took my car to a dealer few weeks ago.. and magically my hatch is quiet now, i did see one of the side panel poped off.. so i guess the guy knew what he was doing with a hatch, the sad thing is that my sunroof is going crazy now.. so i'm gonna call them again...

Actually I think it's fixed again. The foam-tape/electrical-tape fix seems to be a temporary measure because the tape wears out after a while. My original fix wore out because the foam tape got wet and lost its softness, and the electrical tape around the latch was all snagged and torn from repeated opening of the hatch.

I was really disappointed when I redid the tape method and the rattle came back. However, I spent about 2 hours this morning trying to get it right and I finally cracked it. It turns out, for me anyway, that you need to be really careful about the position and amount of tape. The foam actually doesn't have much benefit, but it's all about the electrical tape on the latch. I found that you need to wrap pretty close to the top of the latch, not in the center of the latch. I also found that using too much electrical tape will render the fix useless. I tried wrapping about 5 times and the rattle was worse than ever. The original recommendation of 3 times didn't seem to work either. For me, the ideal solution was to wrap the tape around just 2 times, right at the top edge of the latch.

Fixed! ...for now
