Default hatch shock problem

I was waxing my car today and had the lid on the glass of my hatch. I opened the hatch to grab something out of the back, forgot the lid was on there and it slipped into the area between the hatch glass and roof glass....then I closed the hatch. When I noticed it in there, I tried to pull it out, but it was stuck. I opened the hatch and pulled it out, but suddenly now, my shocks wont work, so the hatch won't stay up on its own. What did I do?

from what I have read, wax on the hatch shocks will kill them. Did the wax come in contact with the shocks?

Clean the rods with alcohol to clean them up if they have wax on them........if that does not do it then perhaps they blew........but that seems unlikely unless you closed it on the entire can of Turtle wax.......

I had to have my hatch struts replaced as they failed on their own.
