Default Having a problem with vibrations..

my car was lowered, a while ago and im running 18's on it, i have the tein H techs..

i have noticed the past few weeks that the steering wheel, vibrates above 65mph, and it seems to be getting worse.. the dealer today told me to have the wheels Rebalanced. & That they could not do this for me...

now They apparently did a alignment a month or so ago, but just told me they could not get it up to balance the tires, Then how could they do a alignment? when they charged me for one? sounds shady right?

what could be causing the vibrations?

I would have to say unbalanced tires. I think if the alignment was off it would pull to one side.

That's just my 2 cents.

No, having the tires & wheels balanced won't mess up the alignment.

Going back to the 17's may or may not require realignment, it simply depends on how much it had to be changed from stock, when they aligned it for your 18's.

yes you have a wheel out of balance. A alignment makes the car drive straight and tires wear correctly. The balance of the tires is what makes the tires roll round and not like a egg. Mine did that after I had a flat fixed and they didnt get the tire balanced on them correctly.

I have the same problem but have been lazy in getting it fixed. With my stock 17's the car runs smooth, with my 18's it vibrates at higher speeds and its not the alignment which I had adjusted once I lowered and swaped in TRD shocks/struts.

if balancing doesn't work, have it rebalanced somewhere else, 'cause most wheel balancers are terrible. Also, any rust on the brake rotor surface where the wheel presses along the studs has to be taken off, or the wheel won't be true. Also, if you have a broken belt in the tire (which you usually can't see), or a slight bend in the wheel (which you also can't see), there's no way to get rid of the vibration, except replacement of the tire or wheel... or both. Getting rid of vibration is a maddening journey sometimes, often I've resorted to throwing away all four tires, all four wheels, and getting brand new of both. Really. I've done it, at least 5 times. It's the only way sometimes.

.... and even then, most tire manufactures ship their brand without checking for roundness. I know michelin checks, so when i'm buying an all new tire/wheel combo because vibration has been making me insane, i get michelins.

...and even then, sometimes the vibration is somewhere else in the drivetrain, like the axels/CVjoings or driveshaft... but you can't chase that down until you're sure it's not the wheels/tires. Or it could be motor mounts, or weird stuff you never even considered, like a looseness of a part somewhere, a warped brake rotor... MADDENING!!!!!!

Many times I've given up in disgust and gotten rid of the car.

Good luck!

i know of dealerships not wanting to work on modded cars....especially if they're lowered. on my accord, when i dropped it, and didn't get the car aligned right away, it caused the tires to wear unevenly, thus creating the same thing that you are experiencing. it freaked me out too.
