Default Having trouble matching paint for BSP 209... PLEASE HELP!

I ordered an RS1 lip kit for my 07 BSP and dropped it off last weekend at a local paint shop (he has done some work to some of my buddies cars and they all came out fine). I went to pick it up yesterday but the paint didn't match. It looked more like a navy blue than it did black. He showed me on his laptop what paint he used and it was the PRIME color of 209 (he uses PPG paint), but there was also like 4 or 5 other variances of the color.

In a nutshell, he said that he was only going to repaint it one more time, but would make a test panel of some of the variances and I would have to pick what one to use.

My question to all of you that have had a lip kit, bumper, spoiler, etc. painted, what kind of paint was used? Does your paint match perfect or is it a little off?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated?

Did you have a shop paint it? If so, what kind of paint was used?

You're supposed to use a Dupont brand.

Not Nason, PPG, etc.

- Nason comes out a shader darker.
- PPG I've heard comes out either lighter OR darker.

Dupont is the closest you'll find to OEM.
(I work with my friend at his shop and prep Scion kits, lips, 10000x Five Axis kits,
bumpers, etc. He then paints to match the OEM color and has discovered that
Dupont is the paint that can get the closest match.)

One more thing...
You'll never be able to match a pearl/metallic color DEAD ON. It can ALMOST be a
perfect match (depends on the painter), but never WILL be a perfect match.
In order to achieve the ultimate closest finish, tell your painter to do some blending
with the fenders and front bumper.

EDIT>> Where does your painter get his paint from? It could be a possibility that
the place where he purchases it ____ed up on mixing, adding toner, and etc etc.
(there are lots of variables that could have gone wrong at the paint place).

I took my 5 axis kit to toyota and it was perfect. I figured something like that would happen if I took it somewhere else so I played it safe and went toyota.

Aright, sounds good. I'll talk to him about the paint and see if I can get some more information. I know he said that he only uses PPG paint, so I'll have to find out if theres something he can do, whether it be I'll have someone else mix the paint (which will require me spending more money unfortunately) and bring it to him or something like that.

The only thing is that he said that he was only willing to paint it one more time, and then I would have to just take it as is. I haven't given him any money yet and I told him to hold on to the lip kit at his shop. The guy's really cool and everything, but the way I'm looking at it is I'm paying him to paint something for me, but I don't wanna pay him for not doing a good job, so I'm kinda unsure about what to do if he can't end up getting the right color.

Do I refuse to pay him until its right? See if he'll give me a discount if I can get the paint elsewhere and bring it to him? Tell him that he's gonna paint it until he get's it right? Any advice?

use a real paint system, ..............glasurit

regardless tho, with any paint system, if a drop down panel is made with they can get the right color, its just a PITA for the painter.....let us know how it goes!

I paint for a living mostly crash work.We use Sikkens very nice paint system.Where I work we do something called tint the color to match. It will never be dead on but I can get it pretty close on most paints.I even bought a $400 flash light just made for checking test panels.Tinting isn't the only thing that determines color the air pressure ,reduction and spray gun can change it all.

So went to pick it up yesterday and the paint still didn't match. It's noticeable if you stare at, but just looking at it, its not that bad. But of course, because I notice it, its annoying the crap outta me. The guy who painted it told me that once the paint cures it won't be as noticeable because right now, the clear coat on it is a lot more glossy than the paint is.

I'm starting to think about just taking it to a different place and haven't some other place paint it. I'm out the money that I already spent to get it painted the way it is now.

Any advice on what to do?
Again, I know more than 2 people have something painted in BSP. Where did you get it painted??
