Header Painting
I used to have the DC Sports headers on my car, and they looked great in there, but sounded raspy and overly-loud. So, I have the idea of painting my stock headers. The prep work is easy, a bit of grinding off those cover fasteners, some scrubbing with brillo, etc. I've seen other cars with painted headers, but has anyone attempted this with the tC? Or has anyone painted headers before that can provide any input? I'm just going with a flat gunmetal color, similar to the color of the DC Sports headers.
All input is welcome. I'll be sure to post pics and lessons learned once I've completed the project hopefully this weekend.
Thanks.

the only thing i did was painted my heat shield and cleaned and polished the header.....i personally never seen a header painted besides the dc sports or a heat shield.....i see people wrap them to reduce the heat and also makes it a little quiter....
even the high heat paint will jsut flake off in a matter of days, why bother really, wither put in resonators to the mid pipe and solve the rasp or put stock header back on withthe heat shield, anything else is gonna look second class.......the stock header is ugly with all the brackets coming off it and the mount flange is ugly so use heat shield and either paint it to match something in the car theme or polish the heat shield.
you can't wrap the stock header because it causes the catalytic converter to melt.
you probably haven't seen painted headers, you've seen coated headers, you can't just use a rattle can of spray paint on a header and expect to last long. they get hot and just melt if off.
i've seen painted heat guards for the oem header, but i don't know if it was powdercoated or heat coated.

no paint will actaully last on a header no matter what the paint says it can resist. Idk why but it just seems to flake off. and it sucks when you have flakes and some of it still is on and then you just want to take it all off. hahaha gl though.
i painted my heat shield on my oem headers a copper color with some heat resistant spray paint and about 2 months later i got DC headers, the paint didnt melt or flake but i was showing one of my friends the headers (when it was hot) and he pointed to it and had something plastic in his hand and melted plastic on my heat shield... ruined my paint job. lol
