Default Home made shift light project.

Hey guys/gals,
Im wondering about making a shift light but im not too smart with the wiring and all that stuff. In my brothers old mazda we installed a big ole racing tach with a shift light on it and im wondering about making my own.. Seeing as the tCs already have tach im wondering about buying a strip of leds and tucking them in a vent or something and wiring it into somewhere so when i get to a certain RPM it will light up (so when im racing *track always* it will tell me to shift) im wondering #1 if this is even possible because id have no way of setting the rpm i want it to light up at and #2 if anyone knows anything or any kits that could help me out!

Thanks!

Tyler.

im not sure, but i'm say confidently that you'll need some kind of programmed chip to detect the rpm and signal the light....i dont see a way to make a simple trigger for the light...

goodluk tho

Shift lights and tachs are for amateurs. Go by sound.

what a dumb comment....

i think it would be easier for you just to buy a light instead of making one yourself.

something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Scion...QQcmdZViewItem

They way i usually shift is either sound or feel

And imo i would assume that you would have to do a lot of electrical work to get the shift light to work

yah hmm thanks for all the replys, and yah i usually just go by sound/feel but with the addrenelin (how ever you spell it) going and what not nd exhausts and what not sometimes i forget to shift. (happened a few times when i was dragging my motorcycle and i would hit rev limmitier) and our cars make the most power at 5700 so i thought about getting a shift light to brighten up at 5.8-6.0
