Default Hood bracket arm all bent up?

I got my first oil change last weekend and was informed that my hood bracket arm bent to hell and asked me if the wind caught it or something. I said no. I have cracked the hood maybe twice to put in more winshield juice that's it. I got it bent back but the cheap plastic pieces on both ends have cracked off. It's semi functional now but still a mystery as to how and when it happened.

I'm talking about the arm you remove from the clamp to hold your hood in the open position.

well if you didn't do it maybe they did, forgetting it was a support instead of a hood strut. obviously someone tried to close it with the arm in place. just a guess.
