Default Horrible dealer experience today -

ok, i finally got rid of my old Mustang this weekend, so me and my dad went to look for a SSM scion tC today. i really wanted a 5spd but my stupid dad made me get an AT...but thats a whole different story

ok so the 1st dealer I went to was Elmore Toyota. They had one FM tC AT, but i didnt want that color and they told me they werent taking any orders.

Then we went over to Tustin Toyota and they had 2 in stock. Both loaded with options that i didnt even want. They also told me they were not taking orders on them for base models.

Then I went over to Longo Toyota, the largest Toyota dealer in the US. I figured they would have some in stock, but nope! They had one demo which i test drove. But the sales rep told me that they could order one for me but the wait was FOUR TO SIX WEEKS! i can not wait that long without a car, so we just left.

After a lunch break at In-n-out, we stopped by Toyota of Garden Grove. They had two in stock, also loaded with options (sticker price was over $25k on one of them ). I asked if they were getting any more in soon, and he went to check. Came back and told me there will be an AT SSM tC base model arriving April 5! exactly what i wanted! They got my number and everything and said they would call me when it came in! The thing is that they didnt take a deposit from me, and im scared that they will either not call me, or call me and tell me that the car is loaded with options that i dont want. we shall see. dealers ____ me off

sorry for you bad experiences but trust me it will be all worth it. My dealer requested us not to put down a deposit as well. My guess is if u dont buy it then they can sell it like that anyways, so y bother? When they do call u, you should pick up the car ASAP. B/C u dont want someone to steal it from u or anyone to test drive it. gLucK happy motoring.

I would call in or show up at the dealership on the fifth. Garden grove toyota salesmen arnt the most honest out there. They pretty much rejected me when i told them i wanted a 5-speed. Elmore toyota was the same when i called them. You know how you get the warning that your calls may be monitored. well... mine was and someone from the headquarters or something called me back and asked what happen when i called. I just told them that elmore didnt want my business and i will go somewhere else. have you tried power toyota in irvine?

lol those california dealerships!

as for a $25K+ tC. All the options, (illumination, side airbags, sub, spoiler, body kit, wheels) then they could have a custom leather interior with heated seats, etc etc etc.

I would write remakes in the dealer section. Then buy a ticket to Phoenix and see Bryon @ Camelback Sion. They do not load there tC's and you could get one with-in a couple of weeks. BTW the weather is great out here right now!

I hear ya . Same thing happen to me when i wanted to get the TC. I went to bunch of different Toyota Dealers Longo,Irvine,Hollywood,Tuscan,Culver City,Miller all didnt want me to order a stock one and all of them wanted me to leave 500-1,500 dollars as a down payment for the car and i had to wait 6 to 8 weeks. . I ended up going to the downtown LA dealership. They just took my name and # told me they will call and 2 days later they called me at 10:30pm at night and said you're car is here can u come pick it up . I rushed it there and got it.

who did you talk to at toyota of GG. i know the managers there and i got hooked up on my car... mayb i can help a little. a deposit wasnt really nesscessary. i didnt put a deposit. just called asked for something, came in 2 weeks later with my car all washed and ready to go.

FYI: most TC's are not being sold bone stock. they will come with options. thats somthing the scion corp wants.

the profit margin for these cars are very slim for scion corp. thus the guys at the dealer ship usually make 1k-2k profit off of bone stock scion's (dealer profit). thats very small for the dealers considering they have to pay employees with that profit, and other expenses.

so options is usually a MUST have, not by us, but by the dealers and scion corp...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you all lost your minds????? If you goto scion.com and read all of the promotional materials they have, Scions are meant to be "personalize" by YOU not the dealer. Dealers are encouraged to sell cars as base models and then let YOU the buyer customize it the way YOU want it. If Scion wanted to make more money then they could raise there prices and the problem would be solved! The reason that these cars were built is to give young first time buyers a no-haggel, low pressure buying experince and to build a loyal customer base, meaning that if you like the Scion, then when you are making more money and want to "move up" in a car you may choose another Toyota product.
Belive me Scion or the dealers are NOT loosing money even when they sell a bone stock ride. If they were they would raise the prices or the dealers would go out of business.
It is people such as yourself (Really not trying to slam you) that belive everything that they hear and then pass off bad info to others. If that is how they sell cars in Cali. then I again think that all of you should buy tickets to Phoenix and buy your rides here. I know for a fact that Camelback Scion and Right Scion DO NOT "Front Load" (add options) to their Scions unless YOU the customer asks for them.
Just my rant for the night.
DO NOT be suckered into buying a car that has options you do not want or need!!!!!!!

yeah thats the way its SUPPOSED to be, but unfortunatly, many dealers are greedy and its very hard to even get a base tC so u can customize it on ur own

That is why the dealers can get away with it, because people are so weak when they really want something, they will pay out the a%* just to own something they really want. I guess it is just human nature, and the dealers out there know it. So I guess that this thread should have never been started. It seems as if you are going to buy one loaded or not. BTW I have some Ocean Front Property here in Az that I will sell cheap, I won't even mark up the options that it has with, will sell the land bone dry stock. Let me know if you would like to buy it!

haha...this is so true. I got lucky with my purchase, because the dealer I purchased from (Scion North in NY) was really upfront and honest. But looking back, if they had brought in my tC with a few options front-loaded, I probably would have bought it anyway These guys, they're no dummies.... but it's still wrong. I hope you find yourself an honest guy to deal with!

take a road trip out to ohio. every dealership around here had at atleast 7-10 tCs. i checked 3 dealerships. one dealership told me that if a dealer said they couldn't get a certain tC within a week, that that dealer didn't know what they were doing.

Yeah, I live in Ga and have gone to all the dealers in my area (toyota of roswell, sandy springs, and town lake ) and have had nothing but a good experience...every dealer I went to had at least 2 purely stock models ...not in the color I wanted mind you but...after I would talk to a sales person the very next day they(four diff. sales guys) would give me a call and tell me that they could get me a stock (5spd) IIP Tc in under 5 days. I am very pleased with the treatment I got by them...

Except I had one of my sales persons "dissapear" right before I bought from him...the toyota dealership told me that they have no idea where he went to and can't get in contact with him.
