mines is not that drastic, but i do think it is not too acurate...i choose to ignore it and have the clock display at all times

is it right after you start it up? After I've been driving a bit it seems to get more accurate. I;d assume within 3-5 degrees

yeah when you first start out it's some outragous number...then drive for 5 minutes..then that is the accurate reading.

It's as accurate as the temp sender the ECU reads to measure intake temps... at freeway speeds, those temps match. I'm using a ScanGauge to monitor IAT (Intake Air Temperature) among other things.

My wife's subaru does the same thing. Initial reading is way off and then after 1-2 minutes, it reads normal. Just use it as a pretty good reading but not 100%. But then what is 100% correct for temperature reading???

definitely. Up to about 110-112, it's bearable for short periods but past that it's just wrong even for a few moments.

I think they said the temp they take inside your car (they call it a carmometer here on the news) said 155°... try touching your steering wheel after that!

every bank sign or gauge you read will be "off" by a little. That is because it literally is not the same temp at your car as it is near the sign, the sun is shining on each different, etc. Take a good digital thermometer outside and walk around with it.. you will see what I mean. But when you first take off the gauge in the tC will be way higher than what is actual. After driving a few minutes you will see it fall.

And 2 degrees off in general is not exactly a horrible thing... we arent doing climate controlled chemistry experiments using our tC temp gauge.

Yeah, I don't think all thermometers are right on with each other, it's just to gauge what the outside temp is...

What, do you go out in the morning to see how warm it is before dressing for work?? haha....

And I also get the off the scale temps when I start the car, but then it starts falling pretty quickly once you get moving...

Let's see, how hot is it outside right now...130! Oh yeah, then you have to add the temperature of a runway (10-15 degrees more) plus flak vests. Welcome to Afghanistan!

Anyone know where the thermometer is? Is it just some heat sensor that the car uses for other things that Scion decided to give you a little LCD readout of? It would be cool if there was some special debug mode where you could get readings of everything else - I bet there is some cool stuff that the computer knows about in there.
