I'm running 40/5% front/rear, and u'm still nervous sometimes. Technically, any tiny on the front will thow you over the limit... But I've run 50% on previous cars and have never been harrassed. IMO, u'm not too happy with my front 40, as it is a little too dark for my taste, but I love the way the rear looks. But in terms of %, it's all personal opinion on what looks best.

I just left my car outside with the windshield sunshade on and the sunroof cracked on the "first" position with the roof sunshade on. Let's see if it works.

And about the tints, I'm thinking of getting 35% or 25% for the fronts and rear windows and 5% for the hatch.

I know tinting the whole windshield is illegal in CA, but do you think tinting it 70% would hurt?

Yeah, if I could do it all over again I would get 5% on the hatch. I think 35% on the fronts is as close as it gets to looking 'stock' with actually making a difference in interior temp. 25% will get you noticed if the cops are chumps in your area. Just a word of advice, the darker you go with the hatch the darker the whole car will look. (With the sunroof covers closed, of course.)

^^ Thanks again!

I'm making few phone calls and getting quotes from local tint shops. I even tried craiglist and some of them offer mobile tinting. LOL! I'm not comfortable getting that kind of tinting service. I need a reputable shop for my car!

Thanks again! :D

Yeah...my 40% is super dark and makes a helluva difference. Rolling down the windows makes an obvious demonstration how much hotter it is without it. But the 40 wouldn't be so dark if I didn't have the backs at 5. But everything also depends on what angle you are looking through (from outside).

Why not just call a reputable tint shop and ask whats legal?
I'm in florida and i got the darkest legal tint. Its 30 up front 15 on the rear 2 and the hatch. I got a 30% eyebrow too.
Throw a windshield sunshade on there too and you got one cool interior.

I just went to work for 8hrs in sunny florida and i could actually be comfortable at the temperature that it was when i got in. Now i just need a taller sunshade since the tc's windshield so so damn big.

daskid! heres a little website to help you with tinting legalities...

http://www.tintlaws.com/laws/CA/

rear window can be as dark as you like it. Just as long as you have a rear view mirror on either side of the car. Same for the rear windows. the front side windows have to allow 70% of light through. and the windshield can only have a 4" strip of non reflective tint on the top (any darkness)

Is it really 70%? I thought I read somewhere that the limit was 80%, but I may be mistaken.

Don't forget that those numbers include the light pass of year glass itself, which is something like 85% on our cars... I forget the exact number. But even clear glass is NOT 100%. Also not that if you somehow magically attain 70% exactly, even the slightest bit of dirt will throw it over the limit. Cops sometimes carry a meter to test the tint too... And yes... You could actually even get a ticket for having the windows too dirty, as they would be a safety hazard.

well, cracking windows or the moonroof open might work... but remember, if it rains, and you're away from the car (or otherwise somehow unaware of it), then bad things will happen

^^not so true. I've left my roof open at the first setting and it started to rain. It wasn't torrential down pour, but it was a good fall. Anyway, I forgot about it while I was at work and came to my car after fearing the worst. But upon a close inspection, nothing got wet inside...

tint doesnt really do anything, the best thing you can do is put aluminum foil all over your roof like i do

id love to get my windows blacked out. but who wants to get pulled over at all. its just a risk and hassle i cant take.

That would work too, but car covers are known for causing scratches in the paint.
