well cheap materials can be good if taken care of, that's what convinced me because i have cheap crap too
any how... my 1 million dollar question is, what do you like and dislike about scion tC
what is wrong with the tc

not hatin or anything toast, not trying to call you out as a flammer, but that was pretty insulting to the poor guy, but as ballinbox says... who cares XD
but give the guy slack, i know i can't speak good english. im guessing he just suck at english O_o, but i wouldn't call someone out because of their horrible spelling/grammar etc. espeically not in a forum. I don't care about my spelling nor grammar when i type in a forum, blog, when i play counter strike, but n e way this is gettin off track, so back to tC
but i found an article earlier, somewhere saying that the paint for tC is a bit soft, it's in yahoo's review somewhere, i gotta find it again T__T, but i found a forum that talked about soft paint
http://www.scion-owners.com/post-4130.html
other than that, i found reviews saying tC are cool cars, just underpowered, bad stereo system[the volume ****](who cares im gettng the 06
) , and i hope there won't be anything wrong with my future tC
brb doing a search....
okay back found it
http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/scion...r_reviews.html
btw if you click the sort by lowest rating, you can see all of the problems people complain about the tC
and if you sort by highest rating, you can see all the goodies
Personally i like edmunds so there, i can't give any more comments about the tC because i don't own one so im outta here, almost time to get off work and go home XD

I recently had to decide on which car to buy and I chose the tC after I test drove it. I can say with absolute certainty that it does not feel cheap at all. In fact, I felt that it handled far better than any car I've driven, and I've driven many cars because I work at a rental car company. The cheapest cars with the cheapest materials are Kia cars.
I really like the handling on the tC. Feels very secure and grips the road very well. For the price, it's hard to beat. You also get great fuel mileage.
What I wish the car had is a rear windshield wiper. Having been through so much rain recently, a rear windshield wiper would help greatly. The only other thing I wish the tC had was an option for 4 doors. Although I will be the only person in the car most of the time, having rear doors or rear opening doors, like on the Mazda RX8, would've been a good option. Again, for the price, it's minor.

Wow- some of you guys are feisty.
Sounds to me like he (itservices) was asking a fairly benign question. Regardless, he may be better off reading a review from a car mag/Consumer Reports as they might not have an emotional tie to the car. It's the whole cognitive dissonance thing.

Yes, you pay for what u get. But that doesn't mean "hella cheap cars". Firstly, you've got to consider the price range. No car make or model beats it for overall standard options for its price. Take a Base model civic for example, and add the same options and it will cost more than the tC. 17 inch rims, Moonroof, mp3 player...etc. Also note that the factory audio system sounds better than many cars out there. The back seats of the tC are one of the most spacious for coupes. An average of at least 25 miles per gallon, city and highway combined. Handling? Great for the price. Its compromise, the ride is a little rougher due to a stiffer suspension setup which in turn gives you a much better handling car.
As for what u pay for, you don't get a better transmission, like a 5 speed auto. A more powerful engine, and yes i think the 2.4L dohc is underpowered.
As for creeks, nearly every car creeks, be it 10k or 50k.
As for rear wind shield wiper
, most should be glad it didn't have it coz so many of us have subs in the rear. Think of how much its going to rattle. xB owners should know what i'm talking about.
There will always be better cars with better prices coming out. But If someone can present me an overall better car for the price at this point in time, please let me know. So that my months of research and test driving are a waste.
Hmmm... Time for a nap...

Take one 18 - 20k car (like the others in the tC class).
Remove the pricing variables and offer the lowest price up front....
And you have the tC. I dont think it is necessarilly that much cheaper than the others in its class when you remove the extra markup on it. There is still some difference, but not as much as it may seem. The largest difference is that everyone can get the cheap price, not just those who take the initiative to talk down the sticker price.
As far as things going wrong on some of them, go to the nhtsa and look at some of the recalls and defect complaints on the other cars out.. it happens to many of the other manufacturers as well. Also, keep in mind that Toyota/Scion does not just make money on the markup they place on a certain brand/model. The new customers generated bring further business down the road.
So from just these few aspects you can see that there are a lot of ways to build and sell a car cheaper than just using cheap materials.
There are some issues that seem to be appearing with the tC, but I wouldnt say they built the entire car "cheaply". I would view those more as defects that need to be worked out.

btw, i did post a bit about the soft paint, anyone noticed that? i don't really mind because i'll repaint it after i get my body kit
btw, this is nothing worht arguing, i don't think he wanted to argue, he wanted some info, by saying that it's cheap materials, he got everyone to post their opinion and experience with their tC, i bet he'll be around later thanking you guys for the info, or at least i think he should RAWR!!!, he better thank me LOL and toast too

I did notice the soft paint...I've seen a few posts about that. All I can't comment about anything other than FM since thats what I drive, but I have 5000+ miles and not a chip. Wo0t! Plus, Lexus is now using that exact paint color/name for the '06 GS300's. I know this because when I went to my parents house last tuesday for dinner, there was a brand new one in the Garage. (on a side note, that car is friggin sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!) I just can't see Lexus using the exact same paint if there is some kind of a problem with it. Perhaps the soft paint issues are in regards to SSM, which as I understand has been discontinued.
As far as him being back or thanking people (especially me), I'm not holding my breath.

So called quality cars are not always what the apper to be. Take AUDI for instance. sweet looking cars, "european quality", luxury car right? Wrong, they totaly fall apart, just like BMW has got crappy electrical parts in them. Just because you pay 60K for a car dosnt mean you are getting a quality product. Suckers are born every minute
If our cars didnt have this whole pure price concept, the price tag would be an additional 2-3K. The whole point is to avoid haggling. So if you really think about it, our cars are really not all that cheap.
And just so you know, pricing is a marketting strategy. Some expensive products are priced high in a certain range for the simple fact that data suggest it would sell more in quantity, and not because it is by any means better.
Your price concerns are understandable because generally you get what you pay for. Since the tC is new, only time will tell if toyota did a good job. But based on their reputation, most people are willing to take that chance.

One word for ya, "TOYOTA". Yep that's right, your buying a Toyota and this is a good thing, because Toyota motors are bullet proof
. All my 27 years on this earth I have been in a Toyota, even when I was a little teenie weenie guy in my car seat. My family has owned every Toyota made Corona, Corola, 4runner, Camry, truck, ect. These Toyota's had many miles without any major problems at all. My moms Corola had 300,000 miles on it until it finally blew a head gasket.
I can garantee that a tC, xB and xA will out last any car at there price tag and will even out last a $30,000 dollar car. Remember my friend, the tC has a VVT-i 2.4L Camry motor that has been in production for over 10 years with nothing but good reviews on it. This motor is made to last a very, very long time. The tC is cheaply priced due to no extra work on designing the powertrain, due to the design already being in production for years on the Camry and suspension/brake features from the 7 Gen Celica.
I bought the tC for one reason, "Reliability" and of course because it's a very beautiful design that likes to turn heads every where it goes, along with (What kind of car is that" or "That's a very nice car, it looks like a Lexus"........
What more could you ask for with a price of $16,500, it's a steal and very easy to work on too. I'm in heaven compared to my 7Gen GT-S and the Celica was $26,000.
Good Day.....

When I bought my new tC last Saturday, the sales manager of the Scion division came over and talked with my father and myself. We sat down and spoke about Scion, how popular yada yada... He then showed us pictures of the factory in Japan that he toured where the Scions are made. Quite impressive indeed. Then he went on and explained that alot of people are unaware of this, but the Scion tC was designed by the same exact engineer as the Lexus coupe and sedans. He explained that alot of the interior styling is very similar to the Lexus. For example, the gauge cluster and the steering wheel have remarkable similarities as the Lexus ES300 sedan.
My mother has an 04 ES300 and when test driving the tC I commented on how much it reminded me of the cockpit area of the Lexus. Another thing the manager told us is that if you raise the tC and the IS300 up on a lift, the undercarriage is almost identical, (granted there are a few different aspects.) I was pleased to hear about this and it makes me feel quite good knowing it was designed by the lead Lexus designer. Very happy owner here!!

thankyou for all the replies, i did not know that there would be so many post with in 2 days.
Let me restate something, i am not saying they are cheap crap, i was saying that from the cons and complains from others sites/reviews, i found that all the cons were about crappy annoying things such as soft paint, soft plastic, dull looking fabric, glass roof that has sounds of crackling, etc
it is a sexy car indeed, i would like to make sure that it is okay for my friend or maybe even me, gettin a tC and not have problems with it
once again i would like to thank the people with the good quick responses

rides like a IS300, has the same tires as the IS, is as quick as an IS but is not as nice, but you are paying 10k less, TC's really arent all that cheap, mine was 20k's, my only complaints are the huge shifter and the super high ride-height, but I fixed those 2 probs!
