buy the $600 + $10 a month option from the dealer. Yea, the price sucks. No, you cannot get an aftermarket add-on for cheaper. You can replace the whole stereo with one that has XM built in for cheaper however.

The Sirius Direct units should be out in September, where you'll be able to add Sirius or XM to your radio for about $150.

I say save yourself the 6 bills go out and get yourself a Roady2 for 120(comes with rebate for free home kit). Sure it may not be the most elegant and transparent solution, but it works great, has an varible color face( match it to the HU or the accent lights easily), and it's portable word on the street is they will have a walkman like attachment for it soon. I just got one for my current car and putting it in my new tC in a few months.

The Roady is cheaper. I have one in my Jetta and I like it. I went w/ the dealer option on my tC though. The Roady's reception isn't as good when it's FM modulated and it clutters up the cabin a bit...I really like the clean lines/space inside the tC...that's why I went w/ the dealer option - Cleaner/less clutter and way better reception.

Cheers,
Josh

You can get the Scion XM kit for $480 or so online, install it yourself (I'd say 2-3 hours at least to do right), and then call XM and sign up...

is it impossible to just buy a pioneer tuner, and an xm antenna from crutchfield, and take it to a good stereo installer?

If the head unit is in fact, xm ready, the price for the above plan (even at the place where all the pro athletes get their stereo work done) wouldn't even crack $350....

Our "Pioneer" HU is not a 100% Pioneer. We got hosed by Scion - they made a proprietary IP-bus, that's not compatible with all the Pioneer goodies.
