I'm an installer, and although I don't condone the twist and tape method, there really is nothing wrong with it. I always use connectors, but if I were in a pinch, I would twist and tape, just be sure to use 3M Super 33+ electrical tape, the only real electrical tape around. And the comment about burning peoples cars down, thats BS. What are fuses for? To look pretty, I don't think so. Please don't post on things you know nothing about. Thats how misconceptions are spread. Any short on the constant or ignition wire would immediately blow the fuses. The decks are fused to protect them, as well as the car side. I have seen fires from faulty installs but it had nothing to do with proper use of electrical tape. Its always had to do with faulty equipment,

Well if you are going to hate on his spelling you had better check yourself first. It's "their" not "there".

Now let's get back to the topic and help this guy out.

He's been helped. What he wants is not hard at all. People just overthink making connections and panic. I know I did, but it's not nearly as bad as he thinks. Cutting your negative terminal off to put the wire into an aftermarket clamp, now that was something I did reallllly wrong.

Did your headunit come with it's own wiring harness? Mine did. If so, get out your instruction manual for your headunit, and find the page that describes the wires and their functions.

Now, get out your Scosche harness's directions. All you need to do is connect the wires that have the same function to each other from the two harnesses (in whatever way you choose; butt connectors or soldering which I recommend for the most secure connection, overkill or not). Example: Dimming wire(usually Orange) to Dimming, Ground (Black) to Ground, etc.

I'd grab pictures of mine, but it's sort of behind my HU, and i've got 20+ wires I don't feel like working with.

yeah show the guy some love, what's with all the hatin? We're all stuck on this rock called Earth, the least we could do is all get along!

hey glad you got it installed too! Yeah twist and tape works, but it's not the best. I personally like the bullet connectors from Radio Shack. Crimped on, last a good long time, plus easy to remove if needed.

Default Crimps/ splices / terminals

tomorrow or wednesday when im at work im going to take pictures of the proper tools and what a good crimp looks like. No more tape and twist and wires s horting out, and electrical noise, no more problems that could have been prevented.
