I got pulled over for my tints literally 3 days after putting them on. I still had the recept from the place that did it so when the cop started giving me crap I pulled it out of the glove box showed him the recept that said "15% tint-$". The state law said that I can have 25%. I was being polite as possible but as soon as I proved him to be a dumb-___, he then continued to tell me that my TRD Exhaust was illegal too. I then told him that I got it from the dealership and he once again looked like a dumb-___ and sent me on my way. Natualy I was polite the entrie time and attempted not to sound like a know it all. He never really gave me a reason for pulling me over but I guess he was looking for an excuse, too bad all he could come up with was BS.

Getting a ticket sucks but if its for stupid things like tints and what not they just pay that. If you want to contest the ticket you have a right too. I dont understand how tints license plate frame and loud exhaust would equal to $500??

Yeah fight it, i hope the judge adds more to the ticket for you taking a cop off the street because your a child who can't take responsibility for your actions.

That is such a stupid comment you just made. First off most of the cops going to court either are on there days off getting OT or they are working their reg shift and there are other people out there covering for them. And I have been to court and talked to the prosecutor and officer and had tickets lowered and dropped.

I don't understand this comment at all. Why would you pull out the receipt? Just to give the cop some solid evidence that you are breaking the law? "Look officer, I'm ten percent over the legal limit. See? I have the evidence right here if you don't believe me..."

A cop cant enforce a violation if they do not see an offense. By rolling down his windows, theres not reason for a cop to ask him to roll them without probable cause. (there is no reason to roll them up since they cop has full view of the driver, and there isnt anything suspicious) Thats where it becomes unfair for topic creator.

You still have to roll them up if they ask, but you could "officially" declare that you do not consent to rolling them down.
But, "If I can see you, you can see me" holds true in this.

If he saw the trooper and had time to react and roll up his windows, the cop could have easily seen them prior. And the other windows being tinted is probable cause enough.

How are they bull?

While I agree they are dumb laws, but they are truthful in the book laws. So they arent bull. They are the law like it or not.

wow, this is hilarious. So he pulled you over and you pulled out a receipt that proved him correct? How did that help you?
You do realize that 15% is DARKER than 25%, so you did have illegal window tint!!!

yeah i was thinking the same thing. in window tinting the lower the number the darker it is.
so that would make 15% darker than 25%. haha that was pretty funny.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, the laws arnt b.s. but I didnt think that an exhaust and license plate are primary offences, I could be completely wrong though on that one. If they arnt primary then I think its bull the cop stopped him for those.

Fight it.

First off, it's not the officer's choice how much time you have. You have 30 days to comply with the law whether he likes it or not. An officer does not write the law; he's only there to enforce what's already on the books. Some cops seem to get confused.

Second, he couldn't make you have it inspected even if he wanted. It's not a moving violation, and not a serious offense. I would have said "Sure. Let's go have the car inspected at the inspection shop that the police department doesn't have."

Keep in mind that a cop can only detain you if he has a reason to do so. Non-moving violations are not grounds for detainment any longer than he can write you up for the violation.

Did you break law? Probably, and therefore you should be fined. However, that doesn't give the cop the right to break the law either.

I say fight it.

The problem is... when you get to court, at some point you're going to have to plead ignorance.

And you know exactly what's legal, and what's not legal.

--

If the exhaust law is a specific limit, then you should consider testing your volume if you want to fight it. If it simply states "no modifications", then you're screwed.

The tint, well, is sorta a done issue... That's IF the officer is allowed to make subjective judgements on it. You weren't directly measured, so it's up to the specific letter of the law.

But I hope you didn't mouth off to the officer... they do have video dash-cams, and they could use that in court against a "poor innocent, ignorant me" plea for mercy.

Consider a lawyer if you want to fight. Otherwise, you have 30 days (or whatever the LAW says, not the officer) to comply. And no, the officer himself will not inspect your car. That's an outlandish power-grab, if true.

I would go to the police station and ask to speak with the chief, because this seems a bit like harassment to me....Which "techincally" is against the law....
