Did you run into the problem with the HID bulbs being too 'deep' for the housing? Just bought my tC, looking to upgrade to HIDs (6000k), not sure which to go with. Just looking for a little friendly advice. I've found a couple websites that seem to have sound prods.....

http://eurolamps.com/eurolamps/realhid.htm

http://www.autoaccessorystore.com/ho...&sub_name=HIDs

Don't plan on going through Ebay, can't trust anyone anymore.

my2005tC, can you please let us know what brand HID kit you bought, where you bought it, and how much it cost? Several people have asked, and since you went to all of the trouble to initially post the pics, I'm sure you want us to have that info.

The Eurolamps look interesting, but the site says they're only $30.00. That's extremely low, if they are supposed to be real HID's. Does anyone know if heat is an issue with HID's? I know for my current car, a 2000 Turbo Beetle that's a real concern since it's very easy to melt the headlight lense.

Eurolamps: 30 bucks are only for the bulbs, which is still pretty low, but its just the bulbs, no ballasts. aim for 300+ and i wouldn't go for anything over.... 600?

try looking up 'ultinon' on ebay. they're 6000k HIDs made by philips, which i believe are pretty reputable. everyone i know uses them, everyone who did an HID conversion at least. conversions aren't DOT (dept. of transportation) approved, but WHATEVER!

Alright, this kit came off my 2002 WRX and all I did is buy new bulbs. as for $30 bulbs i dont think so. try at least over $120 for a pair. Anyway the kit they claim 9000K.

This is where I got it and the kit works great and I love the color.

That kit looks really good - the pictures prove the look. What about focusing the beam? What about the cutoff that the stock tC reflectors aren't really set up for? Is there a good way to point these and stuff? I don't want to blind anyone. If it really looks similar to a car that comes stock with them, then it looks great - if it's some half assed kinda thing, I'm not so interested.

On a related note, anyone know anyone who converted their cars to HID and then got caught for it?

Wow... 9000K? You're probably putting MUCH less light on the road than the stock halogens. Not much of an upgrade...

An HID kit with much too high of a color temp with a lens not designed retrofitted for HID = glare city.

All HID has been Banned by the DOT, since Nov. 2003. Problem is too much glare on Non-projector headlight, only legal for projector type headlight. that is why you see all new car with HID all have projector.

Your light from picture look too blueish, easy to get a cop on you.
Try to adjust the light lower to the ground, so you won't blind the people infront of you.(specially it is police car)

Price of 319 is not bad, some kit are even below $300 since the DOT banned the HID.

Actually there are new cars and SUV's (2004 and 2005) that still use reflector based HID lights, such as G35's, QX56's, Navigator's, Aviator’s, Escalade's, IS300, GS300/400's, etc... But the majority use HID projectors.

Actually you are WRONG. Yes they are not putting out as much light out as a 4300K kit but its def putting out a LOT MORE light than the stock units.

Its easy to focus the beam,

And yes I've been busted before when they were on my WRX, I got pulled over for just them and the cop let me go

I can understand you are defensive, but please read the link I posted.

Halogens produce somewhere between 800 and 1700 lumens of light. A 5800k bulb produces only 2400 lumen compared with a 4100k which produces 3200 lumens. That is 25% drop going from 4100k to 5800k. You are running 9000k... care to guess how many lumens you are producing from that ricey kit? The light may be more intense, but it is less light.

Also, lighting companies DO NOT MAKE bulbs that are rated higher than 6000k. The difference between that 6000k and your garbage 9000k is blue or purple coating on the bulbs. It is physically imposible to make a bulb higher than 6000k temp.

Also the light you are producing is being lost in great abundance to glare due to a crappy cut off and bleeding light.

AND you are lighting everything up blue, great looking, but poor light that will increase eye strain and fatigue.
