The K&N Typhoon CAI just came out. Should I get it? Your advice? Thanks.

____ i was about to go buy exhust today, but u showed me this, and now i got to save some money... K&N is a great company, and this is something we all should jump on. Injen, Aem both used to use KN filters when they sold their intake up until a couple of years ago...(my old eclipse injen came with one)

I dig K&N. I had the Typhoon intake setup on my old Si.. in the words of Peter Griffin it was "freakin' sweet".

I'm definitely gonna consider shelling out for this one..

I had the Typhoon intake on my Integra. I think I could feel a little extra boost, especially at high RPMs, but there was this REALLY ANNOYING squealing noise right in the middle of the power band (2500-3200 or so), which I heard all the time ,as opposed to full throttle, which I didn't do too often. It did look good though...

Oh... the other thing that sucked. My intake looked like the one above and after I bought it they switched to a different style (smaller with a heat shield, etc.) They discontinued my intake and when I called about it nobody had any info - like it had never existed. Just strange. K&N is a good name in filters though.

If someone buys it, I want to know how it sounds, all through the power band. If this sounded good all the way through and then throaty wide open, I might do it.

indeed, K&N makes quality products.

it even comes with a water resistant "sock" to stick over the filter, something i've never seen before.

the price is a bit steep. anyone want to start cooking up a group buy?

i must add though, last i heard (from mikochu) K&N was delaying release of this product.

call the vendor before ordering to see if they even have it.

Um... are you sure it comes with this? K&N has always had two accessories. For dusty environments, there was a "sock" type thing called the filtercharger or something. For wet environments, there was the "drycharger" which was a water resistant version of the filtercharger thing. I might be getting the names wrong but that was my memory of it. The issue is that in most cases you wouldn't need this, and if you really drove through standing water or something (enough to reach the filter), odds are you'd hydrolock it either way. My old intake was more of a shortram, but if this thing really sits low, it would have to show AMAZING dyno numbers for me to want to risk it.

you're right. well, we're both right. the actual filter is called the "filter charger" and the sock is called the "dry charger"

from the installation pdf:

Ok guys, for those of you wondering where to buy it, you can order directly from K&N here:

http://shop.knfilters.com/KNShop/Pro...?pid=69-8607TB

for $360.15 + shipping.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if you visit one of their authorized web resellers, Vic Hubbard Speed, you can get the same one for $257.51 + shipping, here:

http://www.vichubbard.com/shop/produ...roductid=41846

I only see the silver one. I don't know if they carry the blue. Hope this helps. I think this is going to be my xmas gift to myself :D

*EDIT*: I found the blue on on another authorized K&N Dealer's Website, 4filters.com

http://www.4filters.com/merchant/mer...Code=69-8607TB $257.51 as well.

That's funny - I just used the application finder on the K&N sit e and it doesn't show that they've got anything for the tC yet.

That silver one does look good. I'd never get the polished metal one, and I'd probably get blue (like I used to have), but I'm surprised how much I like the silver one.

If it sounds good, maybe. Too bad they don't have a dyno up for it yet. It's not worth wrecking your car for $260 bucks unless there are some real proven improvements. It's too wet up here in Seattle to have to worry all the time.
