I have a Spec tC...the only difference I know of of sure is the transponder; there isn't one on the Spec model so any other differences I am currently unaware of. I suppose if someone gets it and it doesn't work for their Base tC we'll know more.

Sorry for thread-jacking OP

The Base tC has a transponder/immobilizer, the Spec tC does not.

That's why I did not have to go to a dealership to have my key programmed or cut the transponder chip out of my old key. There is a transponder chip in the key but the Spec tC itself does not have the immobilizer.

Let me know if I need to give a breakdown of what an immobilizer is and how it is related to the transponder key, etc.

lol I was actually being serious. I don't know if people know the difference or how they were related, that's why I was asking, not trying to be a smart **** or anything.

SEARCH AND YOU WILL FIND
considering we are in a thread that YOU created to show off YOUR key

asking how YOU programmed it is valid.

First and foremost, I DID NOT CREATE THIS THREAD

If you wanted to learn how to program a Scion key all you had to do was search. Moderator or not, I don't care, you're not exempt to the search button. In my initial post in this thread I stated Toyota makes a switchblade.....if its OEM then follow OEM instructions to program it.

I cannot recall if anyone actually went through with the key fob "renovation" but here are some pics of mine,

No, the trunk pop does not work.

I have a spec model tC so I did not need to have the transponder programmed but there is one in the switchblade for those with base tC's,

Lowes refused to cut the key so I went across the street and Home Depot cut it.

It took a little bit of force to get the key cylinder to catch the key but after that one time each time it works like a charm.

I noticed that the FCC ID was different from the one on my key. Does that make a difference? ecko04 - is that the same one on your key?

I don't recall, I don't have my original key any longer; it's locked away. I do not have ready access to it to check for you.

If you swap your original transmitter's guts into the case, the FCC ID shouldn't matter.

While not a flip key, i swapped my old ugly rubber '05 key's guts into on of these for cheap a few weeks back:

So I have a 2005 tC... and my FCC ID is different from the auction, but I think I'm going to try this key:

--> LINKY <--

Looks clean. Though I'm not sure if I should ask to have him put a transponder in it like the auction mentions, or just try to put my current one in it.

So if anyone can answer this... is this part of the key the transponder that would need to be transferred to a new key?

This one key that I'd be taking it out of is starting to wear down anyway and I'd just toss that one if I could switch over the transponder.

Use a couple of dabs of hot glue to secure the transponder as close to the actual key blade as possible.

Interesting... well I just ordered that key I linked above and shouldn't have too much trouble moving the transponder over. Then just have to get it cut and spend a couple minutes programming. Guess I could make a "key conversion" thread to track my progress and such.
