Default Let's Just Fix These Rattles!!!

Ok... So, I have come to the conclusion, after many trips to the dealer, that everyone is on their own when it comes to fixing these noises. So, hear is my input into what will hopefully resolve so of these annoyances, and hopefully no one else has discovered this fix. I have pinpointed one of the loud pops from the sunroof. I know that this is causing the noise becuase you can easily reproduce it. Look in the pics... When the sunroof closes, there are metal pieces on either side underneith the glass roof that slides and depresses the two arms that connect to the wind deflector. The issue is that the deflector is spring loaded, When you hit bumps the deflector bounces up and down off those two metal pieces. Want to see if this is your problem? One either the far passenger side of the glass at the corner where it meets the deflector, press the roof down and let it spring back up. It might not sound quite the same from the outside of the car, but try it while sitting in the car. Sounds like it to me. Now, I have attempted once to fix it this morning. I used some foam tape on both the deflector arms and on those metal pieces. Foam tape is no match for our sunroofs. It got destroyed. So, people, any ideas on how to fix this????

Actually, my comp is not working right now... I'll post pics soon, but see if you think this would be causing the problems and yeah,.. Word. Hollar.

Did they ever put shims in your sunroof to stop it from rattling? They did that to mine and it made the noise you describe worse.

Ask them to make sure the front of the sunroof is closing as tight as it should - if it doesn't than the "arms" have room to rattle around.

Mine was making the popping noise too - it's metal on metal or metal on glass from those joints. I bought some weather stripping but didn't use it - injecting a bunch of lithium grease into the joints stopped the sound. It may still move but maybe it slides smoothly instead of catching and making the noise.

They fixed mine by using the torx bits on the side to lower the front so it fits tighter on to the wind deflector .

I discovered the same thing with the sun roof not long ago. I used some stick on felt to fix the problem. It sticks to the nub on the bottom of each side of the sunroof yet it is still slippery enough to slide on the metal bars that push down the deflector.

I would really caution against adding anything non-stock to stop these rattles. It's not that visible up there, but it's in a moving place that can be seen when open and it's got to hold up to heat, water, UV light, and time. If the dealer sticks something on, that's fine, but adjusting, tightnening, and lubing seems to help in many cases and you'll be happier with the end product. If you can diagnose it and figure out what might help, that would be good, but I'd get the dealer involved if you can't.
