Default Lexan replacement roof?

Does anyone know if any of the aftermarket manufacturers are considering making a Lexan replacement for the tC glass roof?

It would be a lot lighter (at the highest point on the car!), and might even be safer if a rock should hit the roof.

lighter I agree, but safer? The chances of a rock hitting you roof hard enough to shatter it are probably a lot less that a rock hitting your front windshield or side windows. So by your arguement those should be replaced first.

Sounds like paranoia, which I understand. I have a phobia about tables with glass tops. I always get visions of someone tripping and crashing though it cutting themselves to shreds...

If a rock that is big enough to break the roof is falling down on to the car, you have bigger problems than a glass roof. If you are going for weight savings, find a new car.

If you used lexan for the roof the car would loose some structural integrity as well as looking like total ____.

lexan scratches too easily for an everyday car. Carbon fiber replacement panels would be cool though. finished top and bottom but you'd no longer be able to look through it.

Somebody should make removable c/f (kinda like t-tops) That way you could take them out on a nice day.

You would have a rediculous amount of cowl shake. It would unbearable to drive.

I doubt that the current glass on the roof is bearing any structural load. I don't think that replacing it (or just taking it off) should lead to cowl shake. Easy enough to test, anyway.
