Default Lifetime of clutch?

What is the prefered way to utilize the clutch at a stop. That is when at a stoplight, I take the car out of gear/N and let off the clutch and thus pressing the break. Then When the light is green, I shift into 1st and go.

Or when at a stoplight, should you keep the car in 1st while holding down the clutch and break. Then when green, let off the break and go.

The reason I'm wondering is b/c I've been told if you hold down the clutch everytime during a stop, it wears out your clutch quicker.

Anyone know?
Thanks

Is it the more you press down on it? Or the longer you press down on it?

The more you use it. The more you use anything, the more it will wear.

Never keep the clutch pedal depressed for a long period of time. This will wear out the throw-out bearing in the tranny which is very expensive to replace because they'll have to take apart the transmission to replace it. Also, It wouldn't be covered under the warranty.

It falls under driver error or abuse. You wouldn't drive around with the e-brake engaged and then claim that the rear brakes are faulty when they wear out prematurely?

it's a wear and tear item. they will not replace your clutch, throwout bearing, or tires, as they are all wear and tear items.

the transmission will be covered under warranty. the clutch on the other hand will not as that is considered a wear and tear item. the transmission will only be covered until the end of the warranty. side note on the clutch: it is covered up to 12,000 miles as is all wear and tear items.
