Default Lost Key

OK so this past weekend I lost one of my keys tot he Scion. I still have my other spare but obviously I am going to need to get an extra one. I am not sure if someone stole it from where I put it down or if I threw it away in the trash. :? Anyways, does anyone have any idea how much an extra key costs? I was thinking I wouldnt have to get new locks on the car because we have low jack. I am sure getting the car new locks would cost a lot too. Can anyone help? Pleeease!

Getting a new key will cost you upwards of $250-$300. The reason for this is that the key has a transponder chip inside of it with a unique code that is required to start your car. The dealer will have to first order you a new key, flash the transponder chip to match your car's ignition, and reprogram the internal door remotes and panic button. So yeah, it's an expensive item. Better not lose another one!

Check with a local dealer, I checked on this right away and was quoted with a reasonable price of $90 to $120.

The transponder chip in the key is generic and programmable to all tC's. They don't have to custom remake a special chip for your key like some other transponder keys which is the cause for the $300 price tag.

Don't get scared, they program these wit ha computer at the factory only, so nobodys runnin around wit ha "skeleton" tC key breakin into stuff.

That's what I need. A skeleton key. Maybe then I could get my tC instead of being told next week, next week, next week.

well we are taking the tC in Friday so I will see then. My boyfriend practically flipped when he found out. But its understandable. Hopefully it really wont be that expensive. I think 90 dollars is more reasonable....but we will see. Thanks though for the replys helped me out ALOT! :o

You know there is a lot of truth to what you say. I lose evreything so its kind of a given with me. Well I really hope it wont be too much. I have an aunt that works at a dealer so I am hoping it really wont be too expensive. I will find out soon though. I guess its a key or going shopping and I need the key WAY more

Its Ridiculous for a key. Its not like money grows on trees. Its going to take 2 weeks though maybe a week they say.

Yeah, it takes a little battery. I think the owner's manual shows you how to replace it. Looks simple.

I carry my spare keyless entry key in my bag I take to work. That way, if I ever lock my keys in the car I'll be ok. I can't imagine it happening though, since I only ever lock my tC with the remote.

I would shop around for that key - any dealer can order you one - even over the phone/internet - all you need is a key number that's on one of the key rings (hope no the one you lost ;))

Anyone have a pic of the actual Keyless entry key? Also, how many keys does the TC come with? I heard that you get a "Valet" key? So does that mean you get 3 keys?

Yes you get three keys. Two have the remote for the locks and open the glove box. The third key does not have the remote and does not open the glove box. All three have the transponder. however.

guess you really need to use valid key instead of remote key, at least it's cheaper.

240 for a key...that's way to expensive, espeically for a 18k car.....
