is that for remote key?? cuz that would be one expensive valet key

$240 for a key is freaking crazy. i guess i will also tie the key around my neck.

 

my dealer gave me 2 extra keys

one has all the buttons on it (exact duplicate) and the other one is just a regular key with no buttons on it.

 

i believe everyone gets those....

Here is a key for $85. Ask your dealer to program it to your car.

Now...
The keys have unique transponder in the fob that is programmed by the CAR. This transponder ID is learned by the car and is used by the immobilizer system. So if someone has a key that matches your car but the transponder is not learned the car will stall out to prevent theft.

The buttons are worked by a seperate system with a battery. They are also programmed where the key electronics is manufactured, not at toyota. The buttons also have a unique ID learned by the car. (The reason my fob wont unlock your car)

The transponder is powered up by a coil around the ignition through LF (Low Frequency). This way when your tiny key fob battery dies you can still start the car without it stalling.

You better have engineered the keyfob if you wish to argue as I make keyfobs at work and know whats up.

 

you're supposed to get 2 regular Keys and one (w/o keyless entry) for Valet parking (can't open glove box with it)
