loud clunking noise between gears???

Default loud clunking noise between gears???

Ok i searched and searched for this but cant find anything on my problem here!

If i go and shift hard from first to second, I will get wheel spin associated with a loud ___ bang like the cv joints ceased or something.

also if i downshift hard from 3rd to 2nd gear same result.

then today on my way home i had to get out of the way of some traffic while i was in forth gear so i went to downshift into 3rd kinda hard and it was very loud this time???

anyone have any ideas what this could be and how I could fix this problem?

Ingalls stiffy etd could reduce wheel hop (or eliminate it) and reduce engine movement. It puts less wear and tear on the car. Either that, or stop shifting so HARD! Even if you do get the etd, shifting like that isn't good for the tranny. And rev-match so its smoother on downshifting!

You sound like you don't know how to drive your car. If you're getting wheel spin, you need to learn to feel for traction. On downshifts, you should be rev-matching, otherwise you're going to ruin your clutch and tranny.

How do you downshift "hard?" Nothing on your car should ever be done "hard." Everything should be done smoothly. Even if it's done fast, it's still done smoothly.

your hearing the engine movenmet as soft mounts give.

I"m thinking it's your shifting... when I drove your car it was fine... unless I just wasn't paying attention. I'll make ya a deal... when we meet up tomorrow to finish the Sirius installation, Ill let you drive my car... and if it does it in mine (which I've never had that problem)... then you know it's your shifting....

BUT!!!!!! If you break anything on my car... you bought it lol

some weeks ago, whenever I shifted, I could hear the tranny, kinda loud.. (in this sequence)
Clutch Enganged (dah) -> From 1st to 2nd (or 2nd to 3rd) (NOISE)
and I just got worst and worst... (believe me, I dont drive it hard, usually)... It just happened when just shifting normally...

so I went ahead and changed the transmission oil (with motul)... felt a difference right away, highly recommended... shifts are way way smoother now, no noise at all, and trust motul...


P.S. and yes man, don't hard shift, you killing tranny, clutch, mounts, everything, do it smoothly, and please please make sure you do rev-matching as the other guys say, it's very important for clutch life if you don't want to be expending over $800 soon...

I consider myself a very seasoned, good driver. Fast or slow.. and i've also experienced the loud thump/bang sound between first and second. It has nothing to do with "bad" driving.. it's wheel hop and the engine/tranny torquing due to shifting so fast. I stopped shifting so fast after I heard it happen and it fixed it for me.. but lowering the car, the Ingalls stiffy, motor/tranny mounts should definately clear the problem up.

Wheel hop is due to bad driving. There are ways to cover it up, with polyurethane motor mounts and bushings, stiffer springs and shocks, better tires, etc.

I know the clunk you're talking about. I find it comes from improper/mistimed clutch engagement. I can shift as quickly as I want... as long as the revs are matched perfectly when I reengage the clutch, there's no noise, no jerk, etc.

Also, never go around banging the shifter. Not only is that terrible for your synchros, but you're just asking for a money shift with that kind of behavior.

Quick shifts are a consequence of precise and quick clutch movement, not quick shifter movement.
