Default Low fuel warning light

I just signed up with this forums and this is first topic. I can't find any info here yet on my question.
Question is once the fuel needle gets close to R and the yellow low gas warning light comes on how many more miles can I go? and how many gallon/s left in the tank?

I usually never let it go close to empty because is not good but this time I didn't pay attention.

Other thing I need to ask is should I do 5000 miles oil change? I believe is little to much. I know regular oil breaks down faster then synthetic oil. Also I do delivery 4 days a week for a restaurant in old town which is a city. On weekends I do highway sometimes. I my self feels is better to do every 4000 miles even tho Toyota says 5000. I just want my engine to last the longest. I need other opinion and experience here.

I believe its close to 3 but thats just trying to remember from filling up after the light comes on. I know toyota says 5000 and i really dont think they would do it for no reason. i am sure they have done there research. But personally i did mine at first one at 1500mi and then every 3000 after that until my 3 free oil changes were up. Now i run Royal Purple 5w-30 and am planning on changing that every 5000 to 6000 miles. I do run my car hard and have been putting alot of miles on it.

Yea I was driving on interstate and after a mile with the warning light I found gas station and put gas.

So 5000 is good huh? I guess toyota use high grade conventional motor oil.

for the motor oil 5000 is good

when it comes to the light, ive gone about 60 to 65 miles after the light comes on, and when i fill up

it takes about 13.3gal and our tanks are 14.5gal

once the needles almosts points at the light is when i get scared LOL

After filling up the tank to day it went pass the full line. This is my 3rd week with this new car btw.
I notice the needle is not even at R but the warning light is on. Unlike my 03 Altima once I hit E or just touching it the empty light comes on. I like the fact that Toyota warns you way before your tank gets close to empty.

Yea mine does the same thing. When my ligth comes on its closer to 3 gallons left. I mean i fill up at a 1/4 tank and it only takes 9gal. my light comes on about a lil under halfway between a 1/4 tank.

I have royal purple 5w30 also and change it every 5k. I'm sure 6k is fine though.

Just for me, putting about 6k miles a year on my car tops, a full year to me is a bit long to go without changing the oil reguardless of mileage.

You get alot more then you think once the light comes on. Ive driven it for quite some time with the light on, until I hit the gas and the car doesnt want to go forward, then I know its time for gas.

awesome, another mid-atlantic tc delivery driver!!! whooo!!!

yeah, when that light comes on, you have about 2 gallons left, so your still good for about 40 more miles, and don't take any turns too fast because the fuel will slosh over to one side and briefly stall.

as for oil changes, i've have mine for over 60 thousand miles, change the oil and rotate tires every 5k, never had an engine problem. and i do deliveries, catering, errands and autocross. if you do it more then every 5k, your just wasting your tips.

funny someoen would post about this tonight, because on my way back to college, the light came on and when i got to a gas station i filled up and put in 12.5g and then looked in the book and it said that my tank was 14.5. Considering that i went about 15 miles or so once the light came on that would tell me that i have about 65 to 70 miles left once the light comes on.

Hope that helps.

If this helps?

I let my car park outside with the low fuel light on. In -20 wind chill and the tank STILL didn't freeze. Was going to work...low on funds and I couldn't refill until lunch time.
