Default Low Tire Presure Warning Light, But tires are actually Over

my tire presure waring light just went on on my tc

I checked the tires and they are all over presure not under

I had read that the plant over fills the tires for transport

is it possible that the presure sensor was set to that higher presure and now that some has leaked it's going off thinking that they are low?

Default s

reset your tire warner look in the manual

because if they are all over but one is lower than the rest, it will sense an underpressure and trigger it until its reset

LOOK IN MANUAL woohoo

Don't pounce just because you didn't say "I reset the light". Take your car into the dealership, say it's still not going off. They will fix it.

the light doesn't indicate LOW tire pressure.....it indicates a CHANGE or DIFFERENCE in tire pressure.....it's done by measuring something to do with rotation amount and rotating mass I believe......if you check all tires and get them to the same pressure, then reset the light, it will be all good....

hehehe

ok it's prebably my fault

I didn't phrase the question properly

thanks for the replies

I'm not having a problem resetting it
I know how the thing works

was just funny that the low tire presure light goes off and all the tires are OVER presure

like I said, I had read that the plant over fills the tires for transport
has anyone else had a problem with the sensor being set to an overinflated presure?

was funny to my eye the one tire looked low, and it turned out to have the most air in it

I'm going to adjust them to 32/29 and reset the sensor

ok, one more time.. the 'low pressure warning light' doesn't sense pressure -- the ACTUAL pressure does not matter. The way that it works is that when a tire has a pressure that is INCONSISTENT with the others, it will rotate faster/slower than the others, and that is when the light comes on.

Overpressure doesn't make a diff if ALL the tires are over pressure.

So, after resetting the light and your tires are at the same pressure, if it still comes on, then take it to the dealer.

What you are describing is an indirect pressure monitoring system, which uses the car's ABS to detect tire pressure based on rotation speed as you said.

However, all 2006 model year cars (and the 2005 tC I suspect) must use a direct method, which uses pressure sensors to directly measure pressure.

Sounds like your're just hitting the reset button until the light turns off. You need to hold it until the light blinks to reset the system. That will keep the light from coming on until you actually have a pressure problem.

Actually this is the type of tire pressure monitoring system used on the tC from my understanding.

As far as the NHTSA requriements go only 20% of new cars are required for the 2006 model year. It is not required on all cars till 2008. Considering the amount of cost cutting they did on Scions, I doubt you will see it on them till 2008.

overinflation is just as bad as underinflation....

im glad every car will have it by 2008, well at least the new ones
