major new tc question
Honestly, the engines in our cars are built to last. Even if people were screaming around with it for a few test drives, then it's no big deal.
I seriously doubt the dealer will give you any discounts, they risk their entire Scion franchise if they do, and who would be willing to do that? I've heard of it happening, but it's very very rare. The best you could probably get is some free oil changes or some deals on labor... couldn't hurt to ask.
My tC had 74 miles on it when I got it, but that was because they went to the port and drove it into the dealership so I didn't have to wait on the truck. It had literally come off the boat 15 mins before I signed the paperwork heh!

I drive for a local dealer part time. I have picked up cars and exchanged cars over 1200 miles. So yes dealers will send drivers across states to get a car. I once drove a truck from PA to GA then back with a new truck for a customer.

for what its worth, my car had 38 miles on it, and came from the NEXT closest dealership, i am SURE they did not trailer it on to drive it 38 miles (oh and the free tank of gas). you have nothing to worry about. You sound VERY young, so please be careful out there. (MY salesman even picked me UP when my car came in).
When I was 18 I worked for Saab doing transports between 3 dealerships, and I would drive those cars up to 150 miles. I would REALLY tend to think most people that work for the dealership transporting cars are pretty good guys. Its not like they are off roading these things.

I've worked as a dealer swap driver, most of the time, they get paid by the hour and most of them don't rush around. The longest I'd had driven on a swap personally was 290 miles down to VA for a 2WD Expedition. From what I understand, most dealers do not use a flatbed when they swap in vehicles; its not really cost effective (have you priced car shipping/towing rates lately?)... I know that several years ago I was quoted $400 to ship a motorbike from Columbus OH to central NJ...
next time someone give you a deal you don't like you don't sign on the dotted line, give him your check, grab the keys, drive all the way home and THEN post on SL to get opinions on what you should do!
in the agreement, YOU are in the driver's seat. it's not like the mileage was a secret. when you looked at your car before you signed the title (You DID do that, right?), and on that nice long sheet of paper with the field next to ODOMETER reading it didn't say 5 right??
So if something rubs you the wrong way, tell them politely that you want it like Burger King...your way.
If i had a dollar for everytime someone felt they got shafted at the dealer, then grew some ***** on the internet...
and i second the suggestion on the english lessons. If i had a dollar for every post with some for of ebonics...
and mine came with 3 miles

I called the dealership yesterday and they found the tC I wanted about 60 miles away. I did the paperwork by fax and they traded one of their cars for my car at another dealership. My tC had total about 80 miles on it when I picked it up last night. So they don't necessarily always use trailers if they are trading cars with other dealerships.

i got mine straight from the dealer with like 5 miles on it. I wouldnt buy a "new" car with that many miles. People run the ____ out of cars when they test drive them and the dealers usually dont care. I dont know if i would make a huge deal about it if i already bought it but i would have looked at that before hand.
It is very rare for a dealer to dealer trade with a trailer. There's only a few hundred buck mark up on the things, and trailer costs about 4 times that of a retired driver.
It is also very rare for a tC to be left long enough on a lot to accumulate that many miles. It is also extremely easy to determine if the car was traded as well. Just ask to see the "paper trail" of the trade. There will be records of it easily seen in the system, and I know I would have no problem whatsoever showing that to a customer.
I also realize that it's probably more important for a first time new car buyer to have the lowest amount of miles possible, vs someone like myself that has already had several new cars. If your dealer wasn't up front about the miles to make sure you'd be alright with it, then that's on the dealer. I always tell my customers that if they want it now, it'll have a few miles, if they can wait 2-3 weeks, then they can get it out of the truck (assuming I don't have it in inventory). And let me just tell you, there's a whole lot more procrastinators that have to have it now, than people willing to wait. I once sold an xB to a guy that had 430 mi on it. He knew ahead of time that it was going to have them, but he couldn't wait any longer.
