Manual Shifting Issues
ahh that could explain the problem then. maybe the didn't put enough thought into the making of our manual trannys. same thing like how all the f/i engines seem to be having problems. maybe it just wasn't well designed.
Of course you have to be at a complete stop in reverse. It is an unsynchronized, straight cut gear, so its very hard to engage unless you're basically sitting still.
Besides... even if you could engage it while moving the other direction, why would you? You'd then end up using the clutch to not only get you moving in the chosen direction, but to stop your car from moving in the wrong direction. That is a little silly, IMHO.
Kind of like the people who are still rolling backwards, then slam it into first (thumping the entire way... and wearing their synchro unnecessarily), and then slipping the clutch to stop moving backwards.
I never understood why people seem to forget they have a little magic pedal between the clutch and throttle... I like to call it a "brake" pedal. It stops the car, its pretty cool.
