Default medical exemption

any of you guys manage to get a medical exemption so you could legally have darker tint? if so, how'd you go about doing it? (i.e. what excuse did you use for the doctor?)

mississippi just changed their tint laws. you have to read a 28. i had an appointment to get 35% 3M tint, and it read 27.2, so the tint shop wouldn't give me a sticker that says it's legal. they carry 3M tint exclusively, and the next best thing is 50%. i refuse to pay 200 bucks for 50% tint, so...i need a medical exemption. if i can get that, i could even get 20% legally.

any pointers would be appreciated. i know this kind of stuff is going to vary from person to person and place to place, but...worth a shot.

Well, you need a sheet from the eye doctor to prove light sensitivity, shouldn't be too hard. Oh yeah, and if your eyes are working, try the search button, it's big, red, and can be seen through 20% tint....

I'm just messing....

Is this tint that you had on before the change of law? If so I think you're exempt from it. I could be wrong.

Otherwise.. Never heard of such a thing.

I was thinking the same...but if cops do stop him and bother to do the tint reading and want to give him a ticket for such a small difference then they won't let it go with the "excuse" that he had it on before the law changed it

True, but I believe it's the whole grandfather law. For example if you own a car that was built prior to 1964 you don't have to wear seat belts. They weren't standard yet.

I believe most states are in the process (or completed) of passing laws to revoke the grandfather clause on seatbelts.

I have heard of states doing this with tint, but I wouldnt expect any type of grandfather clause on it.

My wife had some moles removed for skin cancer and my eyes are kind of sensitive to light, so I thought about it.

Had a fouled up Lasik Eye Surgery and now I'm really sensitive to light, I pretty much wear sunglasses all the time.

My xB was tinted Limo and on the tC I did 15% and its working ok

Most states do not grandfather you in on Tint Laws, but you would need to check with your individual state if that is the case. As well as some states do not allow medical exemption

Georgia got rid of the tint law a while back and just brought it back in the last year or so. Since my xB was already tinted dark I didn't worry about it and never had a problem with police but when I traded it in for my tC I couldn't find anyone to tint it dark for me so I went back to my doc for an exemption and now I have legal below limit tint.

But in my case mine its legit

Thats how it works in Michigan too as long as you can prove you had it before the new law went in effect.

Slightly off topic I got pulled over for my tint once. I didn't get a ticket. I don't think he would have anyway, but this is what I discovered.

Where I live there are no laws on the back three windows. You can paint them if you really want. Doesn't matter. The fronts are max of 70%. My car was purchased in Texas where it's 35%. My tint is 30%.... dealership installed. I just thought that was interesting being it wasn't even legal coming off the lot.

Living in Vegas, you all know how hot the air temperature can get here, but with that the sun is very intense. We are allowed to have up to 5% tint all around becuase of this potential health issue. Yeah I know, it rocks

doesn't matter in Cali, I don't think you can LEGALLY get away with any...I just do it because I want to...if they tell me to fix it, I will, then re-tint. You shouldn't have a probelm with the law unless you are being a moron and doing something dumb to attract them...

although i appreciate all the input, this veered slightly off topic from what i was originally asking.

to those of you who said to just not worry about, i'm with you, but this place refuses to any tint that's under the legal limit, and they have a very good reputation, and are the only shop around here that does 3M, which is what i want.

to those of you saying that most of the states grandfather the law, mississippi doesn't, and even if they did, i have an 07 tc, with a december of 06 date of purchase, so that doesn't apply...

i'm just wondering if anyone has managed to dupe a doctor into signing a form saying that they are medically exempt, and if so, how they did it.

again, i appreciate all the input...

oh well. managed to get a sticker and document stating that my 35% tint is legal even though it read 27.2 and 28 is the limit. so this thread can be ignored and/or deleted.

thanks for all the replies though.
