Default Miles after hitting reserve?

Anybody know how many miles you can go after hitting Reserve? Guessing 50-70 miles. Also I thought the indicator light would not come on until hitting "R" but it came on a little before.

This is one great car (just in case someone was wondering )

You know it's BAD for your car to let it hit reserve and empty.....dirt can settle on the bottom of the gas tank.....I'm sure for a new car it's not as bad, but I NEVER let my car get below a quarter tank, unless I REALLY had too.

Old wife's tales. Gas is pumped from the _bottom_ of the tank (where else), so how can "dirt settle" there?

The only danger in running too low on gas is to completely run out. It's more than just an inconvenience, it can actually damage the fuel pump. The pump uses the fuel to cool it, so running th pump dry can damage it. I think I've run every car I've owned to damn near close to empty, and now I generally run my car to less than a half-gallon in the tank before I fill up.

And I don't have my tC yet, so I can't answer the original question (not that anybody else did yet...)

Agree about FI. TRD puts little orange leaflets in their SC kits saying that if you see fuel low warning light come on on the dash - do not WOT your car and fill up ASAP.

normally when the orange light is on, the car have about 3 gallon of gas left..... that's true for both my corolla and tC.

I'd say about 2 or perhaps 3 gallons. I filled up my car with 12 gallons of gas after the light came on.

If you don't have your car yet, how the hell are you making all of those great install tutorials?

I drove to vegas this past weekend. The light turned was on when I left Barstow (approx 110 out from vegas). I get about 24-25 mpg with my 5 spd, so I was close to about 300 miles on the current tank. I ended up driving to about 350 until I found a gas station 60 miles outside of Vegas. Filled up to 14 gallons. I was feeling an intermittent power loss on 3rd gear at this point.

So my guess is that the reserves are about 3 gallons; which for me equates to driving another 50-60 miles after the fuel light turns on before I absolutly need to fill up.
