Silver seems to be a nice middle ground, but its also one of the most hardest colors to color match / blend if you ever end up needing repairs.

For holding up damage...I would think thin paint is thin paint no matter the color?
Body parts are metal so maybe the silver would best hide damage?

How about installing a clear bra?
Silver the hardest to match/blend???What paint system do you use???I paint professionally most silvers I have encountered are almost panel paintable(with exception of a slight side tone could be off a little because of how the flake lays)I use the Sikkens system very nice system, durable and good color match, and also a little pricey but get what you pay for.Silvers aren't to bad the dark grey metallics and some beiges can be a biscuit sometimes. Your best bet for color is white or silver to hide flaws, all cars get them, cant really stop it ,only can fix them as you get them.I bought my Scion tc used and already repaired and painted the bumper.Next I'll repaint the hood and drivers side(few door dings and lots of chips to fix).I'm doing it in stages since this is my daily driver and cant do it all at once because of down time of the car.By the end of summer my car should be completely repainted only cost me about $300 to do it.My boss only charges me a little for the materials I use hes pretty good about it,and I have a key to the shop can come and go as much as I want.
Yes you are right; you get what you pay for.
Most silver cars that I've seen partially repainted end up being a little off when it's in the sun and I've been told by people who paint that it's not an easy color to work with.
Maybe its time for me to look for a new paint shop
Time to bring your next paint job to my shop. Were not commission based and try to put the utmost quality in our work.

You'd have to claim one ding/chip at a time.

Get the clear bra. I am planning on having my bumper repainted and will definitely put on a clear bra.
So as an insurance guy... hypothetically if I was to come in after some ___ pulled in front of me on a loosely paved road and burned out spraying my car with pebbles... would you till require a claim on each ding or could I get the whole front end redone on one claim?

first new car i buy, first nice thing i ever had, and the front is covered in pain chips already in 1 year (bsp). Eventually I will have to get a kaminari kit and kaminari hood and spend another 4k to buy that and to get it painted and installed.

Honestly it depends on the day - could go one way or the other. One person could consider that wear and tear and another may not. I have paid for gravel damage when the guy said he was following a loaded truck. But he had also just left the repair shop on his way home from having damage repaired and had fresh paint on the front.
You've got to consider that you will have to pay your deductible and that your rates are going to go up.
Instead, spend the $500 in advance and protect your car from what you know will be coming. It will really save yourself some headache.

I have a clear bra and it has kept my car looking like brand new. And $500 installed wasn't bad considering they did the full hood instead of a partial.

But on another note, two of the managers at my work drive about 20k miles per year and their cars look amazing. One is a white TSX, the other is a black E500. Only the TSX has one rock chip, the MB has zero. It's amazing what paint quality can do.

My azure pearl is doing a damn good job at not showing imperfections. I do have rock chips on the front bumper and a few minor scratches on my spoiler from a shingle that flew off the roof during a bad storm and the color of the car hides it very well..swirl marks are virtually non- existant on this color as well.

i agree my azure pearl has maybe one or two paint chips in it and the guy who sold me my tC gave me a bottle of touch up paint and now you can't even see where the chips are unless you look really close ...
