Default MPG stuck?

the past few months iv been getting 27.8mpg. consistently.
no matter how i drive. before i even even touched 3k rpm. and still got 27.8mpg.
and when i was heavy on gas reaching 4-4.5k rpm a few times a day i still got 27.8mpg on that tank.

has anyone experience this? i drive to random places all the time so its not the same road.

last fill up i though it would get something higher since it was a hot day. and i drove mostly on the highways but it was still 27.8mpg. i check every time i fill up and its almost supernatural how its 27.8...

just a random post.

uhm 27.8 is not bad at all if it is city and highway mixed. If it was all highway than it would be alittle low.

I get like 30 consistently but I drive on back roads to get to work where I can do 55 pretty much the whole time and there is very little traffic

That is kinda weird. Atleast it's not bad gas mileage. Do you fill up at the same gas station?

That is strange. I wish that would work for me. I get 17-19 MPG all stop & go city driving.

part of it could be this.... some stations/gas companies during the warmer months choose NOT to use ethenol in some of their grades of fuel. Less ethenol = better burn...in turn results in better mpg

oh and if I drive decent and dont get on it to much...(which I hardly ever get on it that much)... and I only go with one station close to me that has quality fuel and never puts ethenol in their fuels... I average 29-34mpg and I'm at over 5,000 above sea level.

Same here, lucky to get 20mpg combined, although I drive "agressively" most of the time.

lol....think you meant the post above mine....

but in your defense.... I have driven in SoCal a number of times when I used to live in Phoenix (few hour drive from Cali).... and if you don't drive "agressively" at least somewhat... you'll get your @ss ran right over...LOL

Hey there nodsetse ..... think this is fairly on topic for this thread..... so speaking of mpg's...... what's the average cost of fuel out your way? ..... it's creeping up to the $3 mark here for the good stuff. I wont put that cheap crap in my car... did that once and it ran like crap.... only quality fuel w/ NO ethenol for me now

Well if you fill up after 278 miles of driving and always put 10 gallons in . . . then yeah the mileage would be the same.

I get around 30-32mpg mix driving. But it seems to me that the faster I go, the better mileage I get. Can anyone attest to that?

It's more how much brake you use than gas - if you blast then coast that is called pulse and glide which gets you better gas mileage. As long as you accelerate within reason of course.

Hmm, I have a similar problem, cept I think I hit a mpg wall with my car. I usually average around 28-29 mpg. I drive pretty conservatively, accelerating slowly, usually reving to 2 -2.5k rpm and avoid hard brakes, but I dont think i ever averaged more than 30mpg from my calculations. This is mostly highway and some city. Whenever there is more city driving involved or when I do drive more aggressively, i see my mpg drop, but it doesn't work the other way around, haha.

INCREASE TIRE PRESSURE - believe it or not the tire pressure really affects your mileage more than you could ever imagine. If you drive a stick then pop it in neutral on a long downhill even if it is only a slight down hill and that really pumps up the mileage. It takes a bit of fuel to keep the engine turning over and the more it revs the more the fuel.

^ I run 36-38 front and 32-34 rear, but mileage still sucks. While I agree increasing pressure over stock can help mileage, it doesn't do much if you keep your foot in it. However, more pressure also improves cornering performance, which is my primary incentive for doing it.
