Golfball size.. never a good thing. However, if you have at least a half inch of blankets, you will save yourself at least from a broken moonroof.

Having glass coverage, I would be worrying more about the body panels... there is no deductable on the glass

If you don't have a garage a self service car wash is a good place to hang out when you know hail is coming.

Default May sound crazy, but...

Not sure if this has been mentioned... I know it sounds crazy, but here's what I did to protect myself in the future:

I know he put blankets on his car, but no body wants to carry around a bunch of blankets. I went Home Depot's flooring section and picked up several feet of rubber matting. It's enough to cover the hood and trunk area (metal). I figure if the hail is enough to break the glass... then it's just meant to be, but if it's going to just tap the metal and I can't get to cover, I just whip my rubber mats out and flop them on the front and back of the car. Not bad for $20! They take up little space because they fold, and because they're heavy you can actually use them to keep things in place in the cargo area because they don't slide around. Also, they look a lot less tacky than blankets when carried around.

Something to think about...

I would still lay down some sort of cushion between the matts and the hood and trunk...you dont want to scratch your paint. Especially with our "High Tech" paint job. (wink wink)

if you are at home, just put some blankets over the car, secure it, then if you have cardboard (boxes), put it on top of the blankets, then secure it. It may look tacky, but I'd rather look tacky with a dent free car.

I believe you there. I have heard reports of softball sized quite a few times in OK when I lived there.. of course there is usually a tornado somewhere near by as well!

Assessed the damage this morning and NO DAMAGE!!!!!! Yaaaahooooo!!!

I guess all of the blankets worked - my neighbors thought I was crazy but they have ____boxes for cars, so they just don't understand. They were complaining about damage to their cars - hahah - now who's crazy, huh?

So, I'm seriously thinking about one of those car cover tent things - as long as it would hold up in the wind. I'm going shopping today to investigate all of my options. I don't want to have to go through this again!! I've never prayed for a car before - I'm seriously diggin on my car! I saw a commercial on tv today on it and I squealed - LOL!

Anyways, thanks to all for the advice and prayers.

If you get the free-standing carport, make sure to anchor it down VERY well! I have seen them fly away like big kites in tornado season Glad to hear the ride is ok, nothing like wathcing a new car sit out in a storm!
