Default My Carbon Fiber Hood

So I put on my cf hood today and have a problem with getting the washer nozzles in (pre-drilled holes). From looking at other threads on drilling holes, I'm assuming it would be okay to use a fine tooth file so I can get them in there? Also, is it necessary to put the heat shield off the factory hood on the cf hood?
