Default my little rant

so, last night around 8 p.m. i was driving around. i have aftermarket rims with a 35 series tire. i didnt bother putting my tpms in cuz i didnt want to spend more money than i really needed to. but thats besides the point. so, i was driving and i ran over a pothole in the ground at a pretty fast speed. i didnt think anything of it, figued my car could handle it like a badass. ... i guess i was wrong. ... so, i was still driving, i had my music up pretty loud so i didnt hear any hissing noises. i was coming up on a pretty big turn on prairie ave. (i live on socal). when i made a left turn, i heard something rumbling under my car. i thought i ran over a plastic bag or something. but then it started sounding much louder. by the time i got to manhattan blvd/prairie, it was rediculous. so i pulled over. come to find out, my front right tire was flat as a ****.

so, i busted out my jack and my spare. but then..... i realized i didnt have my lug nut wrench thing. -__- so, i was forced to drive over to el camino comunity college, which was 2 blocks away from where i was, cuz i knew they had like a car shop thing over there. when i got there, they had just closed. so, again, i was forced to drive to the closest parking lot. the closest one i found happened to be a staff only parking, but i parked there anyways.

so, i stood outside my car for like 30 mins asking people if they had a lug nut wrench thing. i didnt wanna leave my car out of sight because i didnt wanna get a ticket from campus police. finally, i ran into some kids(3 of them) who had one in their car. they brought it out, and i was gonna do it myself. BUT then, out comes this huge guy. must have been like at least 250 lbs. pretty short dude, but huge. he asked if he could do it, and i said, naw, i can do it. but then he insisted and said he was a mechanic or something, so i was like, sure, w.e. and i handed over to him the wrench thing and my wheel lock. keep in mind, all 20 of my lugs require a wheel lock to remove. so, he manages to loosen 4 of the lugs, but the last one was really hard. so, he puts his whole weight on the wrench, and the wheel lock breaks. heres a pic of it on the left:

it completely broke and the last lug was still stuck. so, the guy was like, damn, im sorry(not even a sincere apology) and just went up and left saying good luck as he walked away. this whole time, i thought this guy was with these 3 kids i mentioned earlier. and the whole time, those 3 kids thought the guy was with me. aparently he was just walking by and just butted in on the situation. i mean, i appreciated his help, but he should have stayed a little longer to see if i figured out what to do. instead of just leaving as soon as he breaks my wheel lock.

so, basically, im stuck there at el camino staff parking on crenshaw and manhattan. i just kinda spun the 4 lugs with my fingers to try to keep the wheel steady. i told those 3 kids thanks for their help, and they left. at this time, it was like 9:15 ish. so, i had no place to go to buy a new wheel lock since everything was pretty much closed or too far.. my aunts house is like 3 blocks away from el camino, so i decided to drive it over there. i had my emergency lights on the whole time going like 15 mph. which is REALLY VERY dangerous, i know, but i couldnt leave my car on staff parking overnight. so i get to my aunts drive way, and left it there.

so this morning, i went to one of these mexican wheel/tire places and they happen to sell those exact wheel locks for $10. u can see the new one in the above picture to the right. i borrowed my brother's car and replaced the flat with the spare. last night was such a fail. so so much fail in less than 2 hours. -___-.

sorry that was kinda long, i just had to post this to see if anyone on here has a similar situation or maybe even worse.

wow that sucks. kida similar story for me but sucks more at the end than yours: i got the NST pully kit (crank, alt, w/p) and was installing them at my job at the time (worked at a dealership) i had rims at the time and like you, all 20 requiered the lock to have them removed. i took off the passenger side tire to get to the crank pulley and do the install.

when i was done with installing all three pulleys i went to put my wheel back on but couldnt find the key for the locks! long story short, i had to hammer in a socket over each and every one of the locks and while doing so, i hammered the face of my rims so i had dents on all four wheel faces at the end...

i wouldnt of let some stranger touch my car especially if he just came out of no where. its my car and if i mess it up then its on me..

^I have locking lugs on all 20 of my lugs as well. Its just a little Key wrench thing that fits into a normal wrench, it's the exact same process as removing normal lugs -- if you have the key, that's why I leave it in the trunk along with the other tools the car comes with.

i used the regular sockets (you know, the polished ones) since there thinner than impact sockets and got one that was a size smaller than the locks on my wheels and just hammered the shizz out of the socket onto the lock... after all 20 locks were out, i was ____ed cause my wheels all had little dents on the face. i ended up sanding the faces down and put some bondo on the dents and repainted the wheels, came out clean and you wouldn't of ever known that they were messed up!

yea i get what you mean about that dude. i still would of done it myself tho. at least everything is fixed now for ya! just remember to keep a tire iron in your car if this ever happens again....you don't have the stock tire iron that's in the trunk??!?! or the key is too small for the stock tire iron?

Sorry to hear what happened to you, bro.

Area where I live/work have tons of big potholes everywhere and I'm also running low profile tires + stretch so I always gotta look for potholes and dodge them.

plus I don't carry a spare since it won't clear my front bbk nor rear calipers so if anything happens, I'm screwed...
