My only ISSUE With the TC is...........
No Traction control..
after tonight, im unsure if i should go with the tc or not.
HEAVY Rain, and me lossing control, and my 01sunfire has it,
i wonder what its like with out it at all?
After tonight, im Deff re-thinken the car Because of that, im a good driver and i almost was in a horrible accident on 1-90 tonight.
can somone Educate me on traction control, and why the TC does not have it, and does it need it?
Still alive in NY? never thought id say this (thanks Little sunfire) haha?

i dont know what to say about the traction control.. I drive suv's on the highway in the rain.. and I don't have a problem with it. Just be careful.
and i work on my own too

In normal conditions you would not need a Traction System of any kind with a car like the tC. I need to ask what was it you where doing? How fast where you going, where you turning? Did you hit the brakes a little hard & kicked in the abs? Normaly all a traction control does is reduce power / or send power to the wheel getting more grip. Some of them act like a locker on hard take offs so both wheels get power. Now this is more like a LSD that does that. So im not sure what a full traction control unit does. Might even apply the brakes for you sum but I could be wrong on that.
i was doing about 50, in a 55, Where everyone was FLYING past me, People Drive really really fast on this specific Highway, And i was going along, and all of a sudden i lost control of the car (sunfire) And for like 3 seconds i had no control of the back end. It kinda felt like it was about to spin? and somehow i got control of the car,> 2 min later it happend again, at this point i was doing like 45-40? this time the front of the car, started to point towards the tractor trailer that was passing me, and i could not see AT ALL, i have no clue how i did not go under the Tractor, God must of been with me, lol but i got control of the car again, EAch time this happend the light on my car came on and said " low TRac" so i know it was working, it was prob the only thing that saved my ___.
i hate driving in the rain,

Oh, wait.
Naa not long at all ,thanks,
im gonna bring it into my uncle and have him check it,
i have had some SERIOUS Break problems with the car. Esp over Bumpy roads, i have lost the breaks, before and have pulled the emergency break once, only on bumpy or wet roads, i think the breaks are pads? and this is why.

Oh, and the sunfires wipers(spelling??)> are WAY TO SLOW!!

Look at www.kbb.com for a idea of what a dealer might give you. Should be a link under used car somthing like "Dealer Trade In Value" or something like that. Select the year, make, model of the car. Then the trim level then what options, if its a auto or manual & milage it has. Then the condition you think it is & bam, you get a price. Now most dealers will be a little under that number so they can make more money when they sale it. I would hope you could get $3k for it. I could get about $1500 for my 1996 Corsica with 119,xxx miles.
Traction control? Dude! Don't be such a _____! You don't need this traction control crap. Buy the tC, you'll be fine. The next thing you're gonna want is this ABS bull____ too! Oops, I guess it comes with that one.
I think traction control would cost a bit too much considering the price point toyota was trying to achieve...

I drove a Neon for 2 years with no ABS or Traction Control. I was more than fine. You just have to know your car, and know exactly how it's going to behave in certain situations. Go out to an empty parking lot when it's really wet or raining. Purposly lose control of the car so you can learn how to correct it, and also what limits it has before breaking lose. I do that with every car I drive, just in case it happens when I'm not expecting it.
You don't need traction control for that. The only thing traction control does is it electronically limits the throttle once the computer detects slippage at the drive (in this case, the front) wheels. What you'd probably need in that case is VSC (Vehicle Skid Control). When the computer detects sliding, it activates VSC, which applies the brakes at variable amounts of pressure at the sliding wheels.
Traction control would only be good (in this case of a FWD car) if you were accelerating hard on a wet surface from a standstill; it would help you take off quicker.
What it sounds like happened here is that you hydroplaned.
I just traded away my 2000 Cavalier with the same trac system that your car has on it. The computer detected slippage at the front wheels at the loss of grip, possibly while the car had lift on it from hydroplaning?
I'm sorry for such a long post
