i don't know what's going on but my tc starts to shake a little when i hit over 70mph, i had a really curved rim, after i replaced my rims and tires it got better but i still can feel it, what do you guys think it is?? ps when i got my springs installed the guy told me that my front passenger side shock was blown, could that be the reason?? thanks guys

So, currently, you're driving around with a blown shock? I'm sorry, but that's one of the stupidest things you could possibly do. The brakes and steering become dangerously ineffective when shock absorbers lose their damping ability. That's a huge potential accident waiting to happen. Get it fixed before you hurt yourself or others.

To answer your question, it is quite possible that the blown shock is causing your problem.

well the thing is he told me that the shock was blown because it had a little oil leaking, but he wasn't 100% sure, plus i don't feel anything is wrong with the suspension so i don't know, oh and my car is an 06 with 17k miles on it, i picked it up with 16k on it, and i just got new wheels and tires and got an alingment after that

honestly, depending on how hard the wheel has hit the curb, you may just be outta alignment or it may be more serious like the rotor or even the drive axle.

the wheel can be out of balance.. you may have thrown a weight or the garage may have not have balanced them when they put new tires on them...

like stated above it most likely needs an alignment, this was happening to me also and i took it to Sears for the free suspension checking and they told me the tie rods were bent but when I looked they were fine, got an alignment and it went away.

DO NOT ever go back to this guy! If he can't figure out if something is wrong with your shock, he shouldn't be working on your car!
Do what the others have said and also check to see if your after market rims came with hub centric rings.

bad alignment rarely causes shaking. it will just cause your car to pull one way when you let go of the wheel ona flat surface.

New tires ABSOLUTELY need balancing.
Dont go back to this guy.

definitely check your tires !!! they must always be balanced properly. my car used to shake around 90, i got new balanced tires and everything is good. dont really go 90 anymore tho. traffic is too bad now.

I used to pull those weights off of my wheels when I JUST started driving. I didn't know what they did.

Yeah, sounds like a wheel balancing problem. And if there is oil at the top of your strut, you need to replace it. It is leaking, and even though it still works, every compression forces a little bit of oil out. Eventually it will leak to the point of loss of damping ability, as said above.

Depending on how old your car is, you may want to replace the strut on the other side across from it, or all of them if two on the same side are leaking.

IF you had your tires put on at a shop they should have balanced them so that shouldn't be the issue. I agree with what was stated above, driving on a blown shock is NOT smart.

My last tC had a problem like this and we went through so many different fixes to try and figure out what the problem was... ended up having a broken wheel stud (one of the lug nuts just fell right off)

So maybe check that too?

The problem with a shake is everything we tell you is purely speculation, none of us can be sure unless it is check out by a qualified and trusted mechanic/shop. Any of the above answers could be right, obviously some are more probable than others. I would like to add to the speculation, you live in NJ, you drive throw snow. Snow and ice build up in the wheel well and all sorts of other placing easily causing a shake.

Btw, improperly balanced wheels will generally cause a shake at slower speeds not higher.

i was at the shop the whole time and they never balanced the tires, i know i'm an idiot cuz i thought new tires didn't need balancing

as for the ice/snow speculation, i had this problem even before the winter started so that can't be it
