Default Need advice on a Scion tC - Some inside Info maybe

Hey all, I'm looking to buy a Scion tC here soon. My current car is fine, it has 85k miles to it and I have about 6k in audio equiptment/wheels. Theres nothing really wrong with my car but I would rather have a manual sports coupe than a 96 Lumina.

Heres my question, how well do you think the Scion tC will hold its value, also, my main concern was waiting one more year and buying the new 06 tC.

Do you think the 06 will be higher? 16k is my price range, I don't think I could afford 18k or even 20k on a car. I'm hoping they don't try and raise the price a tad because the Celica's last year is 05.

Am I making the right move with just waiting an extra year, saving up some extra money so I can get my mods done right away? I'm going mostly engine work with some very nice racing hart wheels on my tC. I would rather leave the inside stock with maybe only a flip out tv screen/dvd player.

Could anyone give me the scope on what the 06 tC will have and also what price will it probably be.

Thanks!

my guess is the price will increase due to inflation and audio upgrades that everyone is talking about.

i'm thinking the price should remain pretty constant, if you see a difference it wont be much. something u should keep in mind when buying this car is that toyota's generally have a higher resale value in general, right now this car is in high demand, and with everything that it does it is in high deamand, dont expect a price dip

As far as resell goes I'm sure it will stay descent, but right now I really need to wait one more year and I would love just some inside info or something on what will be store for me when I do make the purchase.

I just hope they don't change the body style to much or what they have going for them with options. Maybe a couple better options, as it is right now I really love the body style.

I'm just on the fence with this one leaning either way...

Resale value on Scions have been very high (def higher than your current car)

The tC is a MUCH better car than a Lumina

By now and thank yourself later, you will love this car

If you're worried about resale, I'd say don't buy. Don't be fooled by the different name a toyota econobox rebadged is still a toyota econobox. Value % will probably be similar to a corolla. Right now resale is actually not that bad, but that's because there are still waiting lists for this car. Once there TC overstock between new and used in every dealer across the country, we're gonna have a problem. Hopefully this never happens, but I'm guessing it will happen in 2006.Then, there is going to be the huge wave of TC trade ins in about 3-4 years, when everyone is done paying off their TC. Once that happens, you're not going to get diddly for your car, that's just the way I see it anyway. We're not driving BMW's or trucks.

Its not really the resell, value is one thing I'm wanting to see but its a Toyota so I'm sure it will hold its value. I talked with a rep and he said it will be the same body style, the price will be the same, maybe a little more expensive. I'm just going to hold off and buy the 06 when it comes out. May be september or so, so about this time next year I will be in a new Scion tC.

Yes, I would love to buy one but you have to hold off sometimes, my car is fine right now and yes my value is going down as I drive it but its okay.

Maybe I can help you out a bit...

I went from a 95 Monte Carlo (as you know its practically the same car as yours) to my tC. The transmission on your Lumina is about ready to go out. They go at around 100 grand, I got lucky mine went at 130. Other than that they are pretty solid dependable cars. I did not reach unreliability issues until almost 180xxx. The intake manifold gaskets go bad too, that was my problem. If I would not of just started a new job after graduating college I would of held on to the car and fixed it. I loved that monte carlo.

The tC has been nothing but a great car. I got it about 2 months ago. I have about 4600 miles on it. My only gripe is that when I picked it up the center console was scratched, but before I even noticed it my salesman informed me that replacement parts were on the way. They came, scratch went away, nothing to complain about.

If the price on the tC goes up it won't go up much, thats what draws people to it. If it goes up a hundred bucks or so it won't affect your payments a great deal. Hold off buying the car as long as possible so you can afford a bigger downpayment. The value on your lumina won't drop to much. It is almost 10 years old, low miles for that age car, but still.

Also, the size of your radio compartment is going to be differant. I had plenty of audio gear in my monte, and when I ordered my tC I got the factory sub, and have been impressed with it for a factory system. The tC can fit a double din size touchscreen display, I think those look a lot cooler behind the radio door than a flip up screen.

Appreciate the feedback. I'm going to hold off until 06. Right now my car is probably the best looking Lumina on the street. What I have done with that car is changed the look completely. Its smooth, isn't euro'd out, and I just recently had it repainted in some road dmg spots and had the interior redyed. I am going to hold on to it for another year before I dump it out. I want to get the small kinks worked out on the tC before I buy one but I am definately going to purchase one. As far as audio equiptment goes, I don't think I'll be putting a system in the tC. Over the long run the system will mess your car up. I had a good company install my audio equiptment and even after a few years little things go wrong. Maybe a touch screen dvd player for my music in the tC but thats about it. I will miss the extreme bass of 2k watts but its something I'll just have to get over. I want to do alot of small mods to me tC engine/exterior wise so that will make up for it.
