Default Need opinions for a project car...

Ok so heres the deal. I drive a 2006 scion tc, lots of upgrades. I love my tc and love it as my daily driver. One of my friends got just got kicked out of the country for legal issues lol. And he left behind his 1993 mr2 in good-near perfect condition. He will sell it to me outright for 2500. I'm 16 and have a good savings so the price is not bad. I want this as my project car to turn it into a nice tuner and turn it around for a sale. It has been babied its whole life (other than an occasional lead foot ride) and always garage kept. I have no pictures but just look up a white '93 mr2.

Heres what I need help with:

I have a good income of about 750 a month from working alot and having a good job. The guy will take payments over a period of time. I have to pay for insurance which I would need guestimates on so please help me out here*****.

The Tc would stay my daily driver and this would just be a once in a while/weekend/track fun car. I love working on cars, its in my blood and I really want a car on the side to just do work on.

What do you guys think?

honestly i dont want to knock anyone but 750 isn't much of an income. i mean you are only 16 though, im guessing no bills other than car payment, gas, and insurance? im guess the mr2 insurance is gonna be rediculous too. if you can afford it i'd say definitely yes! they say hard work always pays off, just make sure the funds are there. btw what bills do you have to pay for right now?

if you are going to turn it into a tuner then keep it dont sell it after all the time and love you put into it plus the economy sucks ppl are conserving money and it might b hard to make any type of profit

valid points both of you.

AGTC95: Right now I have next to nothing. I am kinda spoiled because i'm an only child so i don't pay for car/insurance/gas. All i pay for is lunch for school going off campus and stuff. Yes I know 750 isn't that great but i'm 16, working part time, playing baseball, and just doing hs stuff with friends.

SexyRS1: I do like the idea of keeping for a long time =]

$750 a month? dude, that ain't much, and you don't spend your savings unless you have to.

basically, look at how much your tc costs you on about a monthly basis, and double it, car payments, insurance, tires, brakes, gas, oil, filters, cleaning supplies etc. can you afford it? are you still paying off your tc? if so, i'd definetly not ask for a second car and insurance payment.

i make over $750 a week and i'm always saving up making sure i don't over extend myself on parts for my tc alone.

and also, if your 16, you are hopefully college bound, trust me, save your money, you won't have alot of time to work, or mod your car. and you might be paying to feed yourself, rent, room, board, text books, lap top, computer software etc. project cars can be a huge money pit, and who knows if you'll even have that job in college, or if you go to college far away from home, the car will just sit there and deteriorate.

I have money already set aside for college and I am forced to save as much as I spend modding my cars. College money is not a factor right now. Really i just can't decide whether or not to stop modding my tc and just keep it like it is as a nice dd and then having the mr2 for weekends or using money i would spend on the mr2 and finishing my tc off

i would say no..

Unless your parents are going to pay for your college and or getting a scholarship, i would save the savings up to as much as possible..750 sounds alot for your age but honestly you will spend that much in college textbooks haha..

I would just stick with the tc for now..but thats just me..If you are gettign one of the above then by all means get the mr2.

i would say get it. BUT take these factors into consideration, if you parents help pay for these things (car, insurance, gas) can they afford to keep helping you if you have a second car?

otherwise if you want to chat more, AIM me. ill be in the library for finals and what not for the rest of the week.

whatever you do, you must be 100% ok with it.

pics soon?

I've been in your position bro and honestly i would say don't take it.
I got my tC when i was 16 but i payed for all my bills myself and now im 18 making a bit over 1500 a month on part time job and full time student in school. I was going to get a project car as well but the money being put into payments insurance gas and other expenses leaves me with enough to still have fun and go out. If i would have bought the project car i would be broke ALL the time and you don't want that young ((or older lol)). Remeber you got it easy because your 16 what happens when your parents stop paying your bills then either the tC or the MR2 has to go. So think i through.

yea just dont fall in love early......once you do the money is going to stop flowing to your car and into your girl haha. all i ever get is i spend so much money on my car, but wait....my closet being filled with 20 plus shoe boxes and not having room for clothes in the closet anymore is nothing? you gotta save up and always have money for unexpected stuff. This is why i havent gone all out on my tc yet and still am waiting to get a bike.
