Red face New guy with questions

Hey everyone I bought my wife a scion tc a little over a year ago. Great car besides the trunk lid lift gate (not sure of real name) broke off.

Now I've run into some problems.

1) this is really dumb but where is full on the dipstick? I see L and H but then above that are two little dots is it supposed to be at the dots or the H.

I ask that because I was removed the oil cap to look for any milky ness and it looked like it was steaming or smoking but I might be paranoid you'll see why next question.

2) It seems the coolant is over flowing out of the overflow reservoir out of the cap.

I replaced the radiator cap tonight with a new one, soon as I removed the cap fluid came out not a lot but some and I'm pretty sure that's not normal.

It does not appear to be leaking or burning coolant heat and all functions are working properly.

Thanks for any insight and advice!

The trunk handle breaks off on a lot of people. I have had my car since 2008 and have NEVER broken mine off. There is sort of a method to opening the trunk. First push the "button" to hear it click then slowly lift the trunk. Too many people push and pull at the same time (like it should be) and rip it off. Check TRDsparks.com for parts.

1- There is a high and a lower indicator on the dip stick. You want to be in between the two. Also you shouldn't be checking your oil if the car is still hot. You need to let the car sit before checking it so the oil can properly drain down to the pan before getting an accurate reading. Remember too much oil is a bad thing.

2-If coolant is overflowing because you put too much in the system its not a big deal. The system will purge out the extra. No harm no fail.

Thanks for the great info!

I found that out the hard way lol, about the lift gate area.

my question was on the oil dipstick sorry I should have explained better. I check it when it's cold, I'm lost on where the oil is supposed to be. because it has the low and high symbols which I'm assuming it should be between those two. But then above it, it had the two dots kind of like a high low and I know on some cars they only have the dots or the high low. so that's where I am lost, which I'm figuring I'm over thinking it.

The coolant situation, I haven't added any coolant that's the problem. Coolant is being forced out the over flow. I replaced the radiator cap to see if that fixes it. The oil is fine so I don't think it's a head gasket, maybe a thermostat? Clogged radiator?

It's a 06 with only 86k miles. No problems I know of far as over heating. Heat works fine.

I know there has to be a reason that the coolant is being forced out of the over flow reservoir. I'm just not sure what it is.

The 2008 dipsticks don't have a L or H on the dipstick. We only have two dots. I keep the oil between the two dots.

I am sure the L and H show which dot is low and which is high.

The dipstick has low and high like most, then above that about two inches is the lower dot then above that is the higher dot. make sense?

You could also just try checking your manual. There is a possibility its a different dip stick but its rare someone replaces a dip stick.

If its coming out of the overflow I honesty wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure it's not leaking from a hose or radiator while under pressure. Run the car unt it gets hot. Then look under car for leaks.
