Yeah it just showed up today. Unfortunately it's only in like three cities: SF, NY, LV. It's called street view.

I got to around my area, but no they don't have much coverage where I live...still creepy as hell though, although I can definitly see the usefullness in it though. Helps people "visualize" the buildings and areas they will be turning at. Wonder how they did the 360 views though. *Shivers*

 

agreed cool but scary...big brother really is looking over your shoulder....just be glad they are not interested in the little people. ....funny it works that well but they still can't find Ol Bin!

 

wow that Street View is wild! living in a big city is definietly a plus because we gett cool stuff like this. however, like other people have posted it is a little scary of how these companies can track us!!! does anyone how the pics from "Street View" are made?

 

It's just a van that drives around with some rotating camera on top...you can see the shadow and reflection occasionally

Because its a 360 degree picture that's basically a bunch of pictures stitched together.

Think about it... how would you ever possibly take a picture like that that ISN'T "distorted"? It's pretty much impossible with just plain photography



Yea, I heard about this yesterday. Although its not really "high-tech" per se (someone's just taking pictures and linking them with the streets), it is still pretty cool.

I hope that in the future, GPS systems can actually SHOW you the exit/turn/whatever before you take it - of course, that would actually probably confuse the person even more than just a clean, simple diagram like on existing GPSs.
