A t-stat is a thermostat. The TRD t-stat opens at a lower temp to help the car run cooler, this might be important when going with a turbo or supercharger, but for stock not a very effective upgrade.
The hyper voltage or hyper ground or whatever, is a waste of money. All it is is thicker ground wires. If you are really intent on doing this goto a stereo shop and buy batter cables and terminal and make your own kid for like 10 bucks.
Hawkeye is 100% right on the TRD t-stat, but is only 50% right about the voltage and ground kits. That paticular kit, hyper, is yes, a complete waste of money. As you know, the tC hasent been out very long, so not many manufacturer's have had a chance to get products out for it yet. When it comes to grounding and ignition systems for any car, www.nology.com is the ONLY place worth getting it. Im working hand in hand with them to get a complete electrical system from them along with their world famous nology hotwires for the tC, but its still under development, IMHO, side by side with I/H/E your ignition and electrical system is the most affordable, and essential part of your car you NEED to upgrade, not only to extend the life of your car, but also to ensure its working properly with any installed performance mods. Building one yourself is the stupidest idea ever, what kind of car do you think you own? an 89 prelude?? I'll post a thread when the Nology stuff is released.
Isnt it true that grounding wires increase horsepower slightly? Well i'm talking from reading many articles where there are 3-5hp differences, but its mostly in very high power cars. Basically cars that really need it. True or not?
It's a case-by-case thing, but it does appear ground wires do increase horsepower, and you don't need a sports car to get a benefit. Car Audio Magazine installed one on a Volvo wagon and got about 16 horses out of it: http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0401cae_hyper/
Grounding your throttle body won't increase HP. It feels like it does, but it doesn't. It increases your throttle response, which makes your car a bit quicker.
You can ground your throttle body effectively doing it yourself. There were many DIY threads that I read on the Mazda3 forums and all but 1 attempt worked well. But I wouldn't try a DIY on something like your ignition.
