Default New toyota engine

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/17/d...w-inline-four/

Hmmmm... Do i smell new tC engine??

A new 2.7l inline 4 with 188hp, and it will be coming out when the tc replacement is supposed to be coming out.

Just some food for thought

Seems like a lot of money for a little gain, but someone will probably end up doing it.

I would love to have the tC's get a power boost. I love everything about my tC except the fact that it's a little underpowered (will be boosting it in the future). If the new models do in fact get a new engine, that would make the tC a much better car.

Yes it would be really nice, and i think they should offer an upper model with the s/c. A s/c on that engine would be quite nice!

Awesome! A bigger engine with a minimal power gain that's going into a car that's likely going to weigh 3400lbs!

Does anyone know if this is an evolution of the current "AZ" family of engines, or a completely new design? Could we be looking at a new 3AZ-FE engine?

Also, if the new xB can still be called xB, Why should they name the tC something else when the new one comes out? I think they should call it tC whenever the new one comes out, IMHO.

They really do need to improve the engine in the tc. As much as i love my car the engine really is kind of sketchy. Whenever i drive my car i get this feeling that my engine is made of glass, ready to shatter.

Toyota really should consider releasing a V6 tc too. It might be heavier but the car would have more potential.

Now if someone could swap a 3vzfe into these things that would be lovely. Nothing beats a 3L V6 with forged internals STOCK. Throw some boost or nitrous at that motor and it'll haul.

i posted about this earlier today
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=207068

and thinking back on it, i doubt scion will move away from the 2AZ-FE engine any time soon
lets face it, Scions need to belong at a certain price point -- adding a larger engine, and the aforementioned 6spd auto tranny will obviously cost more

best bet i can see is that future scions will continue to carry the 2.4ltr engine with, at best, the 5spd auto tranny from the matrix

oh well, we can dream

The problem i have is its a 2.7l with only 188hp. You have gained .3l and have nothing to show for it, especially when you compare smaller engines with more power. Not just honda either for the torque lovers.

Toyota is such a conservative brand with their cars, its scary.

More radical for the replacement? I dont think so. Look at the new xb, its more tame. The xD has a bit of an edge but at the same time, has lost that special "bang" the xA had.

People can talk about how toyota should throw this or that engine in the bay, do this or that for drivetrains and everything. But bottom line is, its not going to happen without scion 1. changing the image drastically 2. the price going up by several thousand.

Its lovely thoughts, but you have to be realistic.

I know i sound like i'm hating on toyota's and their performance, but honestly they aren't on their A game, and they haven't been for a while now.

Toyota is directly in competition with Honda, atleast in the states. I know many bash Honda for one reason or another, but in terms of performance and aftermarket, Honda does have a huge leap on Toyota. Just as reliable as well.

I would love for toyota to at least release one car that shows they know where their roots are, and they aren't going anywhere.

i completely agree with you. That is what i meant. They strayed away from the radical design with the new cars and i am hoping that they will find their way back to it. Scion is supposed to be about radical, the new car company for the new generation, that sort of thing, and i think they definitely lost that.

Partly because most people buying scion's aren't what they expected in terms of age, that comes with changing of designs to less radical. Not to mention as long as Toyota is the "owner" of Scion, i don't see them gaining a spark back.

I would love to be proved wrong, i really would. But the chances of that happening, imo, are low. Can it happen? Absolutely. Will it? Time is the only answer.

I would love for a company, maybe not Scion, but a company go out and ask real enthusasis what they look for and would want in a new car. Take that, draw a concept using what they've gained and making it plausable, practical, and sellable.

Obviously a v12 sports car for $20k will never happen, but i think i made my point.

They need to stop considering everything and try something off the wall, but still something that can be marketed. It can be done, it has been done.
